How-to remove headlights

Post by jmaziarz »

Hi! I have been looking for a source of information about older Legacys for a loooong time and finally found it! I spent several hours the other night reading the great information here. Hopefully I can contribute something back in time. :D

I was very excited when I read Legacy777's post about de-yellowing headlights (here) but had one question. How do I remove the headlights? Any pointers/tips would be greatly appreciated.

There should be four sets of nuts holding the headlight on. You "may" need to remove the battery to get at the lower one in the corner. Other then that...just take the plug off the light, nuts off, and pull the light out.

First you've gotta remove the grill (you have to like push part of the clip down and then jiggle that section and stuff, kinda hard to explain), and the corner lights. Also unplug the headlight. Then there should be 4 bolts holding the light to the frame. they might be kinda hard to get at depending on which side you're on and which bolts you're doing. They should be 10mm heads, just unscrew those and it should come right out :)

I just recently did this and you don't have to remove the battery. While it might make things a hair easier, it definitely doesn't need to come out.

On 92-94s I think there are just three fasteners per headlight: one bolt on the inboard side that you access by removing the grill and two nuts on the outboard side that you get to from behind.
