Oops, I bwoke it. (Crank position sensor)

Post by DeusExMachina »

I pulled the oil pump yesterday and couldn't get the crank angle sensor out. So, I stuck a prybar against the pump and the little bolt nub on the sensor. Pushed, and POP went the nub.

When it broke off, it took some of the casing off and exposed what was inside.

I'm asking if I should continue to use the sensor, use the sensor and seal it up (with RTV or find the nub and JB weld it on?) or buy a new sensor. A new sensor costs $200 from Subaru I think! :o

Can I use a sensor from a WRX? They're only about 20 bucks, but I'm not sure if its compatible. Help?

You could try just sealing the sensor back up and seeing if it works... I'd do it as a stopgap measure anyway.

I don't think you can use a sensor from a WRX but you should be able to contact a used parts dealer and get one off another BC/BF fairly cheaply.

I've probably got a used one. I can't access my FSM right now to be sure what it looks like, so if you can post a picture I can tell you if I've got it. I'll sell it for cheap if I have it...

Sorry, I posted in the other thread asking for one that I already found one. Junkyard special.

For information's sake, its the little cylindrical sensor that is inserted into the top of the oil pump, above the crank sprocket/pulley.
