That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

Stock WRX Turbo on 93 SS

Post by Spud-GT »

Well Im thinking its time to ditch the stock turbo and go to a WRX one. Now I have the replacement already, but what would I have to change to make it work? I know the intake housing has to have that elbow but what else?

Hardly worth the effort IMO. Just as easy to go to a TD05-16G or something. ESPICALLY if you can score one off of a JDM STi like I am. That's basically a bolt-in proceedure.

The TD04L will do me good as Im not looking for big horsepower numbers or anything like that. And since I got the WRX turbo for free, Im not gonna spend my money on buying a 16G when I could use it for other stuff.

The top coolant line will be pointing the wrong way but just undo it and turn it around. Besides the compressor inlet being straight, we have a 90 degree (verticle) one on the stock VF11, the TD04 compressor outlet is at a 90 degree (horizontal) too, instead of a 45 degree like the stock VF11. Because of this you'll have to fab the pre and post turbo intake. If you go with a WRX TMIC then you can utilize the stock wrx turbo to IC inlet hose though. Good luck and take pictures. :)

Will the oil lines match up? I knew about the 90 degree elbow and thats something I'm thinking of doing this weekend.

The oil lines should be ok, at least my oil lines worked on my 16G.

It's not only the compressor inlet though, the outlet is at a different angle then the VF11 too. Just making sure you're aware of that.

What are you going to run for an intercooler?
