K - -have owned Subarus for years, but have never really understood what a pug is, much less known what the difference is between a steel and alloy rim. Any clarification would be helpful.
In a related development, I have a local salvage yard that has four well worn tires on either steel or alloy rims, and he wants $100.00 for the set. It is off a '93 wagon. Is this a fair deal? They would dress up one of my '90 wagons just in time for me to sell it, but it seemed steeper than I would have guessed I might have to pay.
Thanks! Bret

I've never heard of a PUG. Unless it's some cute pet name for the spare?
A steel wheel is your average black wheel that uses a hub-cap.
Alloys are "rims" that don't require hubcaps.
Steelies are cheap, and $100 for 4 stealies with tires is a bit excessive.
$100 for 4 alloys with tires is pretty good, but kinda high if the tires are really worn.

I think "Pugs" are the Peugeot wheels that some people put on 80s Subarus.
Well-worn tires aren't really worth anything, right? So the question is whether $100 is worth a set of used steel wheels. Like Phil says, it's probably not.
If you're about to sell the car, I don't think investing $100 in these wheels will get you $100 more for the car, especially if you're going to have to pay for decent tires to be put on or if you're going to leave worn-out tires on.

Steels from the rip-off yards around here are $10-15/ea.
