SVX vs. Legacy Turbo?

Post by Gravija »

I am going to test drive a silver SVX (92, 114k miles) and a silver turbo legacy with 166k miles tomorrow morning

the SVX has a dent, no tint, but has a 3.3L H6 for $4000
the legacy looks nice, no dents, tinted, aftermarket CD, but a 2.2L turbo for $2250 (no power luxury stuff like the SVX has either)
both are autos (can't drive stick, nowhere to learn)
so which one do you think is better for a daily driver?
(I know this may be stupid asking on a legacy forum, but i couldn't locate any SVX ones)
for those that have driven the two, which do you think is better?

thanks

(i will be keeping the 92 white legacy N/A regardless)

EDIT: is the SVX considered a sports car? (so my insurance would skyrocket since im 16 w/3months of experience)
would the turbo be a lot more insurance over the N/A?

The insurance on my signficantly faster 94 Legacy Turbo was the same as for my 95 N/A.

I've liked the SVX's a lot, but I like the flexability of the Legacy.

You already have a Legacy. How do you feel about it for a daily driver? If you think it's lacking, get the SVX. If you think it's fine, get the Legacy.

There is a lot more parts support for the EJ22T than there is for the H6. So when something goes wrong, you can easily fix it.

Out of curiousity, why are you getting a second car? I could understand if your current car wanted to become a project, and you wanted a daily driver, but why are you buying a daily driver and keeping the 92 N/A? The Legacy or the SVX would be a better project car, and keep the N/A Legacy as your daily driver.

my family has 5 drivers, 4 cars
mom: ES300
dad: van
aunt: IS300
brother and me: legacy

he got into a minor accident (his fault) in the parking lot of school, and doesn't want to pick me up anymore. I either have to get a ride from someone or get a car. So we'd have a total of a car for each person, so the new one would also be a DD

I was looking at getting like a MK3 supra for ~1000, but my insurance on that would definitely be high, so i looked up for a legacy turbo and for fun just looked up the SVX since i saw one (really nice black one)

btw, does the legacy turbo use premium (91 octane) or can i use regular (87 octane)?

Both cars require 91. I'd say given the miles, both cars are going to be equally reliable. No idea on insurance for an svx, the only person i know who has one (several) can't drive for crap and is lucky you can walk uninsured. Pay attention to the transmissions on both cars- how they feel and whatnot, and to the stuff attaching the wheels to the car on the svx.

Alriighty, as for fun. I've driven several svx's and several legacies. The svx is more fun. Period. It feels like a sports car. It feels really fast, and is, once you get it moving. You're coccooned and get attention. That said, the legacy has a lot more potential if you intend to modify it. There is no aftermarket support for the svx. As you know, the legacy can use more wrx stuff. It's more practical too, its got a trunk and your 3rd friend won't hate you.
