Betrayed by the brotherhood!

Post by legacy92ej22t »

So, with my current car troubles, my mother in law let my wife borrow her Toyota Highlander for a few days. Now the other day my wife ran off to work and a little after she left I came outside and noticed car debris that looked like an accident right in front of my house where the Toyota was parked. I started looking at the bits, worried that it was from my mother in laws car but immediately noticed a piece of hubcap that was obviously Subaru. It was a piece off the 1st Gen Legacy hubcaps that kind of resemble the OZ Rally wheels. The solid ones with the vents on the outer area. I thought it was weird but put it out of mind because I had to get to work and the wife would have noticed damage I thought to myself.

Well about 2 hrs later my wife calls me at work hysterical saying the whole front passenger side of her moms car is FUBARed! I couldn't believe it. I told her to call the cops and report a hit and run and that it was a Subaru. The cops came and he was like, "well that little piece doesn't mean it was a Subaru." Then as my wife was cleaning up she found another piece of hubcap that had the letters SU on it. Still the cop wasn't committing to it being a Subaru. Then a neighbor came out and said that she had picked up a bunch of debris earlier in the morning that was in a line heading south from my house. She had a piece that had the letters ARU on it and still the cop wouldn't admit that it was a Subaru! He said that they'd keep their eyes out but that it didn't look good that the person would be caught. Fuck that, nobody does me like that!

I went out looking for the car because I knew I'd seen old Legacies roaming around my neighborhood before. I struck out the first night. The next morning my wife and I were driving to work and just down from our house about a block and a half was an old Legacy with the same hubcaps! It was parked on the street and I was like " Hey look, those are the hubcaps I was talking about!" I screeched to a halt, jumped out and low and behold there was fresh damage to the rear passenger side door and the rear hubcap was gone. It was painfully obvious that it was the car. I called the cops, gave them the license # and the address to the house that the car was parked in front of. While I was on the phone with the dispatch the guy came out of his house and was looking at his car ( I was up the street at my house). The cops said to go to work and they'd let us know.
The guy didn't answer his door but the cop said it was definitely the car.

They finally got a hold of the guy and he took responsibility but said that his baby sitter was the one that was driving his car and that it happened at 4 am! Who has a baby sitter driving their car at 4 am? Now we find out that guy doesn't have insurance on the car. WTF?

The other thing that sucks is my poor mother in laws car must be cursed. There was an accident in front of her house a little while back and her car got hit pretty badly. She was without her car for about a month and a half. She had the car back 6 days before it was hit in front of my house!

It's bad enough that someone hit the car, it's worse that it was a neighbor but it's horrible that it was a Subaru. :(

because subaru purchase transforms miscreants into upstanding individuals!

That's pretty awesome you found the guy. He must have been an idiot not to go talk to you PRONTO after he found out. Like, the kind of idiot who doesnt have insurance and lets some 16 year old drive his car at 4 am. Fishy. I'm sorry about this ordeal, and i hope that your mum-in-law has comprehensive, if it comes down to that. :?

yeah that sucks. Here I sit having driven for 20 years, have had to repair damage at least ten times to my vehicles, and have never once had the pleasure of wrecking.

If it makes you feel better these things happened to me:

BAM rear ended when ordering a hamburger at Wendy's drive-through, look at rear view mirror, and the passenger and driver in the car that hit me are switching places. I call BS and passenger's grandma agrees to pay, but then...

BAM I'm hit head-on in the same car later the same week, before the first adjuster even assesses the rear damage. Result: my first car 1971 2002 BMW is destroyed, and it takes 1.5 years to get my money

I buy my next BMW, a pristine 325is in winter, store it 2 months til the salt goes away then BAM I'm crushed in the rear by a pie truck. This car did not have a scratch in 8 years and I've driven it for two days before disaster strikes. Then...

I get a rental, come out of my house the first morning, and see plastic on the street. Someone has clipped the left rear of the rental. Worse, like an idiot I used my Discover card, no coverage, unlike the Visa also in my wallet, so it costs me $500 out-of-pocket.

Did I mention that my (now-ex) wife hits a cadillac with her audi, then rolls my Civic Si within three months ?

sue the owner in civil court, he is responsible for his vehicle babysitter or not.

100% chance he'll settle. of course he may be broke.

this happened to me. except it was the people who lived upstairs and parked in the spot next to me. they tried to deny it even w/my cars paint all over the bumper of their boat of a car. the kid was driving. no license and no ins. they got around 2500 in fines. and i got to file a claim w/my comapny. fortunately we were able to finagle the reapirs so that i was able to get it fixed w/out paying the deductable. the estimate was for a new door but the shop was able to pull it out. and we used the trim. they were dead ass broke so i never saw a dime from them.

All three times I was hit, the driver was a woman. Two of them were uninsured. In Ohio if you are caught driving without insurance, you lose your license automatically for 90 days. Where do these people come from? I'm 2 for 3!

The one lady was just a professional loser. She was on her way from court about something else and had lost her license. I was young and she begged me not to call the cops, and I didn't.... Well, my insurance got stuck with the bill. Oh, and she rear-ended me after both of us were stopped at the bottom of an exit ramp. "I thought you were going"

The other girl was a young college student. She pulls a left turn DIRECTLY in front of me. I slam the brakes and its just the sliding game until I hit her. She jumps out and the first words out of her mouth is "I don't have insurance!!". Wow, thanks. But actually about 5-6 months later she payed the full amount and I got my deductible back. So at least she was responsible (or her parents/boyfriend/grandparent bailed her out).

So thanks to them, I have 2 accidents on my insurance record that had nothing to do with my fault!

That sucks. Why was the guy driving one of these posing as the "brotherhood"?
I bet he won't even repair the Subaru either. :x
Professor, it's cool in a twisted way to see that someone else has been hit while ordering in a drive-thru.

What a moron to think he'd get away with hitting a car just down the street.
Probably not in the brotherhood, I bet he thinks of it as a car rather than a legacy.
