The rearend.. and discouragement

Post by bignose »

So, still working on extracting parts from my donar L wagon, to put a manual into my turbo wagon..

Last to come out is the rear end, i have the axles out of the knuckles, all of the skid plates out of the way etc, I'm just wondering, what in the hell does the rear end hang from ? It was getting dark when i reached that point last night.. so I'm sure i can figure it out, but i just figured i'd ask.

this project i'll admit is getting a tad bit discouraging, the clutch from teh donar is shot, the springs have sides ground down. So i think i'm likly gonna go with teh wrx clutch/pp/flywheel route.. but to boot the tranny sounds like it has shit in bad shape inside, and when i bought hte car they said the rear end might be shot ... oh well. car was 150$can, hopefully things will work.

the way i see it, once i do the swap, from auto to manual, ripping out a rear end to put in a new one should be childs play, likewise with a new tranny etc, "once all the work is done"

jeff.

The rear diff is held up by the front carrier subframe. Four bolts attach the diff to this piece, and the rear diff mount.

Your best bet is to put a jack under the diff, unbolt the front subframe, loosen the two rear bolts that hold the rear diff mount to the rear subframe, and lower the entire thing as one piece.

Check out some of the pictures from my swap project and you'll see what I mean

Also....which transmission are you planning to use? The one out of the L? If so, you will not be able to use the WRX clutch/pp/flywheel.

is that the image you mean with those 4 bolts ? i took them out and the other for that are parallell to the ground.

why can't i use the clutch/pp/fwheel on the L tranny ? is it alot different from the turbo one ?

am i making a bad choice all together putting the tranny from an l wagon onto a turbo wagon ?

ooooooo bignose, what year is your touring wagon? If it's a 93 or 94, can you take pictures of the subframe? The underside mainly where the lateral links attach to the subframe?

grah, what year is the wagon you're taking the rear off of? If it's a 93 or 94 could you do the same thing? :)
