YAY! Car's getting fixed!

Hana's gonna be back and better than ever! Estimate came in at $2600, a little too close for comfort.

Shopping list of parts include:
Reconditioned bumper
Used Grille
Used Headlights
New Hood
Reman Compressor(a/c?)
I believe a used radiator, but I can't remember
I'm losing my "touring wagon LE" badges from the fenders, as they aren't made anymore


I'm working on getting a quote from them to fix the damage on my doors, as part of the car is getting painted anyway. I'm also considering getting clearbra or rockblocker installed, seeing as to how the entire front end will be painted. Perhaps I'll black out the chrome on the moulding and give the black stripe around the roof a good once-over too, taking everything back to black.


Just means I have to keep driving the hooptie truck for another few weeks, GW is a very busy shop

Well, if the estimate for the rest of the stuff isn't too bad, at least you'll still have YOUR car and she'll look better than ever!

And the truck's not THAT bad. . . at least you'll not have to drive it on the weekends, right?

Was the $2600 estimate assuming you had it repaired "right" (i.e. using new parts)?

Bummer about the badges... They couldn't be rescued from the old fenders?

no,the $2600 estimate was using used and reconditioned parts. The guy at the shop said that he'd do what he could to salvage the badges, but more than likely, the glue will pull off the lettering and whatnot that makes them up. They're pretty much just cool looking stickers

Oh yeah. . . whatever fundage you were thinking of using for a short-term car while Hana's getting fixed, you'll likely want to keep around for the deductible.

The badges may come off with one of those metal deals they spread plaster with heated and carefully pushed in from the top then re-adhered with double sided tape if they are what they look like in the photo. Clear shield stuff is great, but they come in precut kits usually and are $ which is why I didn't go there. Trying to buy the film was difficult as they only sold in big rolls. I think Josh knew of a place to get the film cheap somewhere.

I've got the hookup for the clearbra application. Local place that did mine loves ca$h and discounts quite well when paying with said currency. Anything they don't have a kit for is not a big deal. They've got some of the best guys around who can custom-cut the film and make sure it disappears.

I say put an MT radiator in it and put an auxiliary tranny cooler on it... I'll bet Hardy would agree with me too...

Yes an aux cooler would be superb, but One shouldn't use just that. ATF needs to be in a temp range to work properly. So keeping the AT rad with the ATF/Water heat exchanger would be a good idea. Personally I'd run the aux cooler in series before the heat exchanger. So when the ATF gets hot enough it would be cooled by the air, then reheated to the proper temp by the coolant.

Huh? I've been thinking about getting one of those, anyhow. What/where is this 'heat exchanger"? I don't recall seeing that kinda deal when I tore up my 92 Auto. I'm gonna PM you, mmkay?

I'm also going to black out my chrome/reblack the trim soon. What product are you looking at using?

the heat exchanger is inside the radiator core.
