Transmission skipping?? help please

Post by sktngisnotacrime »

I recently got a new transmission installed (Automatic, FWD). The reverse is back, but there is a problem with the shifting. When the car shifts between 2nd and 3rd it suddenly lets go of 3rd gear and the rpm goes up. Then It immediatly goes back to 3rd and it goes smooth from there. The old transmission also did this, so I am thinking it is some sort of sensor nhot located on the transmission itself.

has anyone heard of or experienced this problem? if so I would really like some general info

Thanks

just did a diagnostic test

Post by sktngisnotacrime »

just performed the diagnostic code for previous problems, and it gave me a code 32, which is the Vehicle speed sensor 1. does anyone know where this is located or how much it is to replace?

I know i pretty much answered my own question, but some additional info would be great.

Thanks

Does your speedo work?

the speed sensor is in the combination unit in the dash. Usually the cable or base piece is what goes bad.

Try clearing the codes and see if it comes back......or did it come back when you put the new tranny in?

To clear codes....pull fuse 16 EGI/TCU for 10 minutes.

I thought VSS2 was in the instrument cluster and VSS1 was built into the transmission.

You are sure this isnt the old transmission "repaired" instead of replaced? Normally the sympton you describe is an indication that the front band is out of adjustment. Is the 1-2 shift really firm?
