Ok, I just got a wild hair up, and am thinking of finding an old RX turbo and seeing if I can do a WRX engine transplant.
I think going from a 1.8 to a 2.0 should not be an issue. Parts will not be an issue. FINDING a good RX turbo will be an issue.
But you have to admit, It would move!

doesnt have to even be a RX. any loyale will do. or get a old GL 2 door hatch. that would be even lighter. but may require some custom work done to the chassis up front.
and yeah it would move. a stock WRX has TWICE the amount of power that a EA82T has.
i had a 87 3-door w/carbs that was alot of fun to drive except for the fact that the parking brake is on the front wheels.

I agree wholly with this. I need to get my Hatch weighed to see what it comes in at. The brat with full trim and full tank was around 2200 lbs. The 2wd hatch with its more aggressive timing advance curve, light weight and less rotating mass attached to the tranny really moves out. And that hatch itself weighs like 60+ lbs. Replace that with something lighter and take out the rear seats, etc... Great platform. If mine was 4wd, I'd be converting it into the official off-road car. To fit an EJ, i guess it is a little tight in between the strut towers, nothing a big hammer couldn't fix.greg donovan wrote:or get a old GL 2 door hatch. that would be even lighter. but may require some custom work done to the chassis up front.
By the way, I am always on the lookout for a 4wd 2 Door Hatch GL, so if you see one, let me know.

I'm always looking for a manual 1983/4 hardtop. I'd love to put a high compression N/A EJ22 in it and get a fast car with 30+ mpg.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
