SubNoob Needs some help....

I spoke to someone at one of my local muffler shops and they lead me to believe that having a universal muffler installed would just ruin the muffler. Does anybody have any reccomendations on this situation? Any good, affordable muffler reccomendations would also be much appreciated. I'm driving a 1990 Subaru Legacy, curently stock.

That doesn't make any sense. How would installing a muffler ruin it?
Try a different shop.

Thats what I thought but I figured I'd ask you all first :D . Thanks for the input. Also, another quick question, would putting a new muffler on give me any actual benefits performance wise?

Just a muffler alone will get you maybe a couple of top end hp. Sound is what you'll get, and these cars do tend to sound good.
