open downpipe....

OK, so I have been doing work on the car for the past few days. Just getting things ready for winter and trying to fix my exhaust leaks.

Well, I got the uppipe, turbo, and downpipe on, and decided that I wanted to shrink wrap the O2 sensor connection for the winter, to prevent it getting drenched in the snow.

So I just left the exhaust open downpipe so I can drive to the store to get some shrink tubing.

I was driving it a little today, and good lord.

It's SO friggin loud. It's unberrable in the car, but SO cool. I absolutely LOVED how it sounded, but hated the sheer volume of it.

SO, it really did get me thinking, and I'm going to get a straight pipe bent for the car. A single peice, from the downpipe to the tip.

A friend of mine has a straight pipe on his EJ18T impreza, and it sounds so bitchin. Running open downpipe certaintly makes things a bit more interesting. I wouldn't mind the same sound coming from the back of the car :).

You can just be idling, and hear the turbo spinning, you rev it and you can hear the turbo spool down, it sounds like a semi.

When a Semi is Jake Braking, that's how my car sounds when I engien brake. It's sweet.

I helped finish up a STi V4 swap into a Impreza L wagon this weekend, and we had to drive it around for a bit without the stock axle back on. All I could say the whole time was leave it like this for the customer.

I agree, a straight pipe all the way back would sound awesome.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, V4 Impreza L wagon = ultimate sleeper. That thing hauls!

Agree, open pipes sound badass, but they do attract unwanted attention from Johnny Law. If the cops are cool around where you live its fine, around here, they're definitely NOT.

I've become a master of the neutral coast, lol.

I also kill the turbo timer when I am wide open.

I am sure I am usually overlooked as a Mustang or Camaro or Semi truck for the most part.

Haha, I bet. It was loud as hell that day at my house when we were putting in your test pipe and you started it up with just the DP hooked up! My neighbors were probably shitten themselves. lol
