Circle track racing?
Anyone on the board into Dirt track oval racing? Any tips on what magazines cater to Outlaws, Midgets, and things of that sort?

dirt track racing is kinda cool. the crazy sprint cars have a solid front axle and steering stops set at like 60 degrees. and they use all of it countersteering. those drivers have got some skill and balls.
I dig that its pretty much the history of motorsports and how much contact they have out on the track. circle tracks suck though IMO. nothing really stopping em from using the infield and throwing in a few more corners. the speeds would be a lot lower, but it would be better racing and probably more fun to watch.
asphalt sucks. mind numbing to watch, but again it must take huge balls and skills to be 3" away from someone else and the rail at 175mph. one wrong move and your toast.
I talked to a kid who races circle track, I forget what class he runs but his car has 1000cc gixxer motor, and chain drive. I asked him if he'd ever driven the car on a road course and he laughed, saying the car would be way too twitchy.
anyone ever see those crazy bikes with a big front wheel, springer forks, and no brakes? those are nuts, sideways for most of the track.
as for mags, "circle track" is a pretty good one I think. I used to have an issue I swiped from a waiting room somehwere. lots of really in depth tech about motor and suspension setups.
I might have to go watch a race one of these days...

I like small-time racing. When I was kid, my dad and I would hop on his motorcycle and go to the local circle track. Park cars foran hour and get in free.
I like the fact that it is regular guys, who work all week and pour every extra cent into their cars.
Refreshing after watching high-dollar sponsor cars, all the same, and drivers so overpaid they forget its about racing.
My kids also love it, we can all get in for less than $25, that wouldn't buy a single ticket to most pro sports.

yeah, i'd like to learn more about the suspension setups that the outlaw/midget/sprint cars use. Not tooo much of this type of stuff up here in bellingham. Racing is racing is racing and each kind of racing has something about it that's technologically cool.
Of course, rally is the pinnacle of motorsport in my opinion.
