i'm forced to change the filter, i've finally got the pan off but how do you get the filter off? there is a metal line in the way, and no apparent way to get it loose. it's a 96 legacy. how are you supposed to do it?

heres a pic of my tranny filter...you need to pull ever so lightly on the tube that runs across the filter, it will pop out...but watch out, fluid will get ya in the face if your under the car in a pit...trust me
its an easy job over all..
good luck, feel free to ask any other q's if ya need, my replacement went perfectly, for a first time job ;)

Dont waste your time. That isnt even really an item that should be replaced. If you really want filtering visit the dealer and get the retrofit kit for 90 legacys, comes with all the hardware needed and a REAL external filter.

how diffucult is that to put in, i notice my tranny gets pretty hot when running it and would like to get a few more miles out of it...ive heard of people doing this to the SVX's as they tend to burn up tranny's....

Its super easy, remove one cooling hose from the radiator, connect the filter inline with its supplied hoses. Mount the bracket in its location next to the drivers valve cover and tighten everything.

Last I check the kit only cost 12$. It even comes with new bolts with the orange stuff on them and an additional ground wire.

yes, kit is pretty easy to put in, if it's not already in. The pic you have is just a screen.....no need to replace it.

Here's a pic of the trans filter
