Need to replace OEM muffler after 12 years! Any ideas?
I am not looking for performance gains...I would actually love to buy another just like it. I am wondering if the dealer replacement muffler is like the one that came on the car or just some crappy Walker in a SUbaru box. I have thought of putting a used WRX muffler but it seems like a bit of work (thanks Josh!). ANy ideas appreciated!

Any Muffler will do, but we all suggest one that really showcases our 'boxer burble'.
I personally like the Dual Tip Muffers, as they have a kind of Euro look to them.
Straight Pipe may be too loud for long distances.
Either way, free up some airspace in the back!

new muffler
I am actually now in the market for a new muffler myself. The combination of 14+ years and one high curb. DOH!
has created a large hole around the exhaust tip. I tried closing it up with tube "muffler sealant" and it worked for about a month but then the seal shrank and cracked and now it's growling again. I wouldn't mind too much but, it drowns out the low end on my radio!
Any manufacturer recommendations? Is Magaflow, Borla, Stromung better than "generic"? Is there really any performance gains? I'd be happy with something that keeps it quiet.
PS: Oh yeah, co$t is also a consideration.
Thanks,
Brian

My friend got a Magnaflow straight through single tip muffler. I'll try to get a sound clip for you guys, but it should be pretty sweet.
Straight through is the best.

Magnaflow sounds good and isn't too expensive.
Stromung sounds GREAT, but is expensive ($500+ for a catback)
Dunno about Borla. They sound nice, but I haven't even checked price for them.
Somebody has some pics and sound clips of his Magnaflow catback system up on one of the boards.

ok, I'm back. And now I'm really in the market for a muffler. I'd prefer a bolt-on pieve from the rear axle back. I know the WRX one would have to be modded. Several people here have suggested Magnaflow. Do they have one which would be a bolt-on? Any suggestions for where I can order one?
