Difference in fuel lines?

Post by IronMonkeyL255 »

I was planning on replacing most of my fuel lines when I do the pump and filter.

What is the difference between regular fuel line and fuel injection line (besides $4/ft)?

The local Autozone was out of the regular stuff and only had the fuel injection stuff.

Are our lines just 5/16?

Yes, 5/16th is correct. However, looking at my lines the other day, I noticed that not all of them are the same size.. check to make sure they're all 5/16th, and not 5/16ths with a couple 3/8ths, thrown in there.. I dunno.

Our stock fuel hoses are 7.5mm. 5/16" fits pretty closely though.

Regular fuel hose is not meant for the relatively high pressures seen in MPFI systems. Fuel injection hose is. Obviously, then, you should get fuel injection hose, unless you relish carbeque.

Also, if you're changing any of the hose clamps, be sure to replace them with fuel injection clamps, not regular worm-drive clamps or -- God forbid -- spring-type clamps. If you look at your stock clamps you'll see that they're much kinder to the hoses than worm-drive clamps, which helps make sure the hoses stay intact.

What do these fuel injection clamps look like?

I had heard that the worm clamps are the best, as they most evenly spread the force around the hose.

A fuel injection clamp spreads the force evenly as well, but lowers the risk of damaging the hose:
