I'm buying a Boost controller have a few Q's?

I though it would be a fairly cheap first mod for my car.

How much PSI does the stock BOV handle??

Will I notice 10psi without any other mods?? I have K&N panel thats it..

I'm paying $75 for boost controller & 1 hour install $50 Which I think is cheap but will I notice it.??

Why not just use a manual boost controller if you only want 10psi?

My stock BOV had issues, or my setup did. So at 16psi, I was surging. That doesn't seem to be the case for some people though.

10psi, unintercooled, isn't going to be much faster than stock 8.7psi. Maybe a little.

It's not cheap to mod. It's cheap to START modding. It's expensive once you are bitten by the bug.

10psi with just a K&N will not make too much of a difference, but you will notice it most likely.

Why pay $50 to get it installed I just made my own MBC and I will install it my self. I hope it works. I know how to install it but I designed it from a basic spring type valve and I hope to see maybe 12psi.

Ya, I wouldn't pay someone to install it for you. Besides putting in a K&N panel filter the MBC is probably the easiest mod to do there is.

You won't notice a difference. You'll notce a difference at 1bar though.

Smaller hardwear stores often have spring selections.

You need one that will cradle the bearing without slipping over it, or binding or buckling.

I was lucky enough to get a bunch of motor bearings. They are big so the MBC I put together is a 3/8 model. Bigger and better. I don,t have a boost guage yet so I have to wait for my results. I put it in the other day and ran it up and down the road guessing on the boost setting and I got instant spool up at 2100 in second gear. I have a bunch of extra bearings if I can find enough interested people I will put some more together and for a small fee I can get you one.

Yea, bike shops will have the bearings. I get mine from my shop all the time, lol. We have bins of bearings.

I havn't bought anything yet..

I forget the brand name but it was a manual boost controller so I could control boost from the interior.

My mechanic said I could go 12 psi but he doesn't know if the BOV will handle that.

I just though it would be a noticable mod for under $200 bucks and a good start.

I could do exhuast and BOV next.

1 bar.?? That means more fuel?? How would I get more fuel on the stock system.?

I guess if I did this I would have to use a higher octane gas also??

For 200$ you could get a used EVC or Profec. I wouldn't spend that much on a MBC. You wouldn't need more fuel for 15psi, I used to run more than that on my 91 turbo and never had any problems with detonation. You will need an FCD.

I wouldn't spend a single cent until i knew exactly what i was doing and how to go about it. Otherwise you'll end up with a blowed up engine and be very confused. There's no "reset" option if you bugger something.

And really, if you can't install an mbc, you dont belong under the hood. They're easier than spark plugs.

Yeah, I agree. You should definitely learn what youre doing before you start messing with the boost. And BTW 115$ for a MBC installed is a gigantic rip off.

Don't pay someone to install a manual boost controller on your car. Do it yourself. The tiny amount of knowledge and skill that you'll need to do the installation yourself should be a prerequisite for modding your car anyway. If you do the simplest installation it only takes a few minutes anyway; just disconnect the two hoses from the stock boost control solenoid and connect them to the MBC instead, and then cap off the two nipples on the solenoid that you exposed.

The EVC is an electronic boost controller made by HKS.

An FCD is a fuel cut defender. Without one, you can't run more than 12 or 13 psi of boost. Not that even running that much boost is a good idea without supporting modifications.

In my opinion, a boost controller is not a good first modification. Until something on the engine is upgraded to justify higher boost, you shouldn't run higher boost. The FHI engineers set it up this way for a reason. That's just my take though.
