I Need Everyone's um... Help!

Post by blueslsti2004 »

So I have a slight little problem. As some of you know I was in an accident like a month ago and my car was totalled. I've been looking around for a new car and have found a few. I love them all, but can't decide which one to buy. So here are the three choices I've narrowed down to...

94 Legacy Turbo Wagon: What does everyone like about this car?

96 Impreza 2 Door Coupe: What does everyone like about this car?

95-96 Impreza Wagon: What does everyone like about this car?

I "want" to have high horse power and torque. I plan to auto-x, drag the car, and use it as a daily driver! Another thing is if I get the Impreza I will eventually drop a turbo legacy motor into it. I like the coupe, but I love the wagons (plus wagon's are sleepers). I have a feeling alot of you will vote for Legacy Turbo Wagon since this is... well... a legacy site, but I thought I might ask.

Transmission Wise: I should of said this earlier, but I do realize eventually the tranny will have to get built either way. If I go the auto route, it will cost me between $2500-9000 (called around already) depending on how much I want it built. However, it will be the same setup as the old ESX car. On the other hand, if I go the manual route, won't I eventually need a dogbox? I would love to go manual since (1) I love driving stick and (2) I have this STi Short Throw Linkage that I've been trying to get rid of. I just don't want to be blowing (is that the right word...:?) my tranny every two-three weeks...:( Blowing tranny= no bueno... :D

One last question... What are the advantages and disadvantages of the three Subies?

I also posted something similiar to this on awdpirates.net...

All Input is welcome and needed!!!

Thanx in Advance... :D

I'd rather have an early Impreza Sedan, to tell the truth.

The Coupe's are heavier. Pretty sure the old sedans are the lightest EJ platform you can get.

You are going to have tranny problems, reguardless of auto or manual when you go high-power. So it's going to have to be built either way. Comes down to personal preference, at that point. A built manual will put up with any power you decide to make in a daily driven car.

I would consider which transmission you would RATHER drive, and work it that way, instead of thinking of it like stock for stock. Neither will be able to remain stock while pushing some larger numbers.

That said, of the three you have, a Legacy Wagon would be cool, but heavy. The Impreza Coupe would be the lightest of the bunch, with the largest aftermarket. The Impreza wagon... well, it's got room and sleeper effect. I'd rather have the Legacy Wagon instead of the Impreza wagon.

Impreza coupe is the lightest and arguably best looking, but I find the interior terrible with uncomfortable seats (which can be fixed). Pretty common.

Touring wagon is rarest, most comfortable, but heaviest also.

Impreza wagon's really a 5-door hatch so not as useful as a full on wagon with the same negatives of the coupe except it's a rarer choice. Morgie's got a black one that looks incredible.

I'd probably pick the Impreza wagon as it's less common, likely cheaper to buy, and not as heavy as the Legacy even though it has a few pounds on the coupe.

All imput eh? It's input.

If I had to do it over again I'd go with an impreza wagon. And do either a v4 or v6 replica :). I'd go all out though, from the exterior to the interior to the engine to the trans down to the brakes :D Those are hot.

QUICK UPDATE

Post by blueslsti2004 »

94 Turbo Wagon: blue; auto; 103,xxx miles; $6000

96 Impreza Coupe: white; auto 98,xxx miles; $5000

95-96 Impreza Wagon: blue; 5-speed; miles unknown; $3500

I've talked with the first two and they said they are definitely willing to come down in price. I know the first one will hopefully come WAY down because they have had that car sitting on there lot for around 6 months! I'm going to go look at the coupe this Friday and I don't really know anything about the last car.

All look to be in good shape with the usual paint chips.

Forgot to add...

If I end up getting the coupe, I'm "hopefully" going to turn it into a 22B look-a-like...:D

You won't NEED a dogbox, you can run a synchro box.

You could even run an RA gearset and might be OK. I would never trust an RA set, but it works for lots of people.

A built manual can run from $2000 (parts and labor) for an RA set to $11,000 (parts and labor) for a full race 6-speed dogbox.

The question is... how much money are you ready to spend on the car, and how much power do you want to make?

When it's all said and done, I estimate around 10-14K including the car, but I have no idea. Power-wise, I dunno, lol. I guess something that will be able to keep up with/if not beat a STi and Evo VIII. But then again, it depends mostly on my limited funds!

It's REAL close between STi's and myself, and I'm on the stock transmission. A built tranny is a good idea, but you can get away with stock. I bet a stock auto could also hold it, but it too would eventually need to be built.

Wow, thats one clean motor on that Impreza! I would say go for the touring wagon, Imprezas have been way overdone IMO...

Aghh! Cream Interior... my eyes! ;)

Ok, I am gonna say go with the Touring Wagon.

Here's why: The car is already boosted and has a higher hp/weight ratio than any of the other cars.

And by the time you put the time and money into any of the other cars to make it faster... half of the money and half of the effort could be put into the touring wagon to make it much faster than anything you could come up with in the other cars.

Plus it is much more sleeper than any of the other cars. It just doesn't look "sporty", but when you blow the doors off of people that think they are fast, they will just get a sinking feeling in their stomach, like "what just happened?"

And to top it all off, I think the touring wagon has a black interior, and everyone knows a black interior is pimp. :)

the touring wagon is nice, but I wouldn't pay more than $4,000 for one, unless it was already modified to my liking.

6K is just too much, plain and simple, especially with a slushbox to deal with
