NEWBIE! Hello and a few questions!

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and new to Subaru's! I purchased my first one last week. It is a 1991 Legacy L wagon, it has 252k on it and 140k on a 93' 2.2 motor. I purchased it for $1800. So far I love it!! There are a few problems though. The front power windows are REALLY slow. Is there any way to fix them or do I have to purchase new motors? Also my headlight assemblies are really faded and gross lookin, where can I get new ones??

These are my first two questions of many more to come. I should have some pics up shortly!

Our power windows aren't really the quickest... There are plenty out there that seem to go a lot faster. But ours don't fail as often as others, either. I don't know too much about it, but I could imagine that your motors might be slower than they ought to be if the regulator and stuff down there is dirty, or if the glass is rubbing against the rubber on the side or something. Maybe you could check that out?

..or if you're lazy, buy my set. I've cleaned 'em up already.. I'm just looking for someone to sell 'em to!

Take your door panels off, and get in to those windows.. get your wd-40, or whathaveyou, and spray it. They get better. If that doesn't fix it, move to the switches, and try to clean their contacts off, etc. Good connections make things go faster.

WD-40 will wash out grease. Get some grease for the tracks. Spray grease would be easiest to use. But as Vikash, said, none of our windows are very fast yet I've never had to do anything with them in 15 years, 254k. Slow but steady, I guess.

Chain grease is cool stuff. It comes in an aerosol can and sprays like an oil, but then sets to form a grease. Is that the spray grease you're talking about, Steve?

Yeah, we use Zep 2000 at the marina which is a real sticky grease for a spray, but I don't think it's cheap or real available. A regular white grease may work fine and would be easier and cleaner than trying to stick regular grease in the tracks by hand.
