transmission bad?

Post by legacy2 »

i have a 91' legacy AWD, the tranny was rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago for unknown reasons, i just got the car. my sister was drivin it down the highway and then the car just lost momentum and when she pulled off it wouldnt go anywhere but the engine still ran. So i bought it and found the shiftlinkage was broken so i fixed that and it still doesnt go into gear but the rpms change when i go from park into reverse or a drive gear because, im assuming that it knows its supposed to go into gear but doesnt. so anyone know whats wrong, replaced tranny fluid, the old stuff was normal color and no metal fragments came out. thanks

Hmmm.....you might want to drop the pan and see what the magnet in the pan looks like and if the screen in the tranny is plugged.

well i cleaned that and the screen was not plugged. my mechanic said that the guy who put the tranny in didnt get the toque converter set all the way back to engage the pump so he said that the tranny would work for a while then just lose pressure and then quit and he said it would have burned up the pump so i need a new one so problem solved
