I live in Minneapolis, I have aquired a 94 awd legacy with a 160 rounds with a turbo engine for $200. I am a mechanic. I have not looked at this car yet to see what I'm up against because of weather issues. It has had a balancer that fell off and was replaced with a new part. I expect there is keyway damage at the least. The guy that had this vehicle was a bonehead and may have ran it with over boost. I am willing to do what it takes to fix this motor. Where can the best deals be found on parts? I am not a car mechanic and Subaru is a new thing to me. This car intrested me being a awd/w/turbo and as I have looked on in this forum I see the engine has quailities to be very durable. I am told this engine still runs but is making a terrible noise. I know this could be catastrophic but I am more optomistic. I know it is'nt blown up. I will be examining things closely before I would attempt to crank it over. I and looking for leads to good parts at a resonable price. any help would be appriciated-Bill

Welcome to the board, you've come to the right place.
First, you may want to 'Pull the Codes',( http://www.legacycentral.org/library/li ... /codes.htm ) to find out what's wrong with the vehicle, in general. Does it even run? What's it sound like?
I'm a little confused.. You're a mechanic, but not a car mechanic? What's your skillset? Don't worry too much, Subaru is pretty easy to pick up on, it's not as idiosyncratic as you may think.
The EJ22T is a VERY dependable, durable block, if you maintain and mod the car properly.
Unfortunately, as the years go by, parts get more and more scarce. What's cool is that most WRX, STi, and other EJ-series engine parts can be used, including the Impreza and RS series. Depending on what you need, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding it, as long as there's a junkyard near you with a few Subarus in it.
Give it the once-over, and check back in, let us know..

Again, welcome, and feel free to browse our previous posts/threads, and ask us any questions you may have, we're all here to help. :D

oh, and in case you're interested.. check with your local stealerships --they've usually got a website with their catalog of parts, with internet (read: volume) pricing, which may or may not yield a discount over their parts-counter-retail prices. :D

www.allsubaru.com
www.1stsubaruparts.com

Both places are dealerships in WA, but even with shipping, you're getting a better deal than if you were to pay full out-retail.
