Well my oem muffler had some holes and i tried to mend them. That didn't work, so i sawed off my muffler and drove like that for a couple days before getting pulled over and a fix it ticket. Not for emissions (MN there are no emissions rule), but for Noise
So i went to my local Checker Auto and bought a 20$ CherryBomb (glasspack) and a 15$ tip, also some clamps and rigin' equipment.
[i didn't actually weld it on, it's clamped onto my pipe REALLY tight, also my tip is jammed on, not welded. i was on a time crunch too- haha]
I know there are a lot of people here with some pretty exotic exhaust, and for around 40$ total this setup sounds great and doesn't look too bad.

Haha! I am redeemed!! Go ahead and do some searching, I've been talking about how good a glasspack would sound on a 2.2L boxer engine.
It did exactly what you described in my 1.8L Brat, Phil. Very normal and wailed at wide open exhaust. Driving next to a concrete wall was the best, it sounded like it was ripping a hole into the concrete as I went along.
I had one of those things on my last BMW, my dad and I were driving down I-95 and we saw one that had fallen off a car, so we stopped and threw it into the back of the truck. I later installed it after my muffler went bad. Paired with the stock center resonator it sounded pretty good...
but they don't last very long, they start rusting pretty fast
haha here is the only site i could find that will host sound bites.. someone can either mirror or give me a better host it'd be appreciated.. Sound Bite!
My friend has a daytona with a glasspack done the same as mine, and he's had it on his for about 2 years now and no problems. Just clamped on and harnessed up, no problems what so ever .
[re: professor's sig. i have hit 55 on a skateboard, skitching - had to replace my rubber bushings with washers so it wouldn't shake on me at the high speeds, terrifying, but o soo fun]
I had friends with muscle cars with glass packs. The big block Chevelle was especially sweet, but quieter than 'turbo' mufllers during normal driving. When WOT was hit all hell would break loose and sounded like Bike Week had arrived.

I advise against using the red Thrush cherry bombs as they don't flow well compared to others. If you use the louvered kind, run them backwards so the louvers don't impede flow.
I had a glass pack on my old RX with a 2.25in cat back. It was pretty quiet, but I think then I do my exhaust I'm going to just do the turbo back to my stock muffler and then dump it. No cats, no anything. Loud as hell, but looking stock.

Hey there,
That's right on. I checked with a muffler guy I know locally where I live and he said the only problem with the cherry bomb is that there is no spark arrestor, and if you live in a dry enviorment like I do, then you could easily start a fire with that type of set up. Subarus are known for backfiring as well. Looks sweet though.

Hey everyone...I'm new to the forum, but I love what I see so far. Anything I ever need to know is all here. Anyways, back to the muffler talk. I have a 93 turbo, auto, and I'm running with no muffler. Sounds very throaty, not like a loud honda or anything, it's quite nice actually. It's very liveable and I don't have any annoying resonant frequencies or anyting, so I'm happy with it and all it cost me was a tip and a short piece of pipe.
I ran around my neighborhood without the midpipe hooked up, hell yes did it sound good. felt a lot faster too, but that might have been my imagination
and yes my neighbors hate me.
I put one on my 99 toyota camry. It didn't sound like a lawn mower, actually it sounded really mean. not as throaty as the leggy, it doesn't have a boxer.
But the lawn mower sound you are referring to is actualy how Honda motors sound. The stock exhaust is made with the one purpose of making it not sound queer. So when you put any other exhaust on there it unmasks the problem. And the louder the system the more annoying and louder the whine.
