Going catless

Post by TurboSubie »

Thinking about going catless on my 94 Legacy Turbo. HOw many gaskets am I going to have to replace? How many cats are there and where? is there a gasket fromfrom the downpipe to the turbo?
Will these pass emissions without cats? My legacy is in great shape...no CELS

LoL. What the hell... Ok, first off, there is a big cat welded to the downpipe. That's not comming off. The one under the car isn't comming off either. There is one gasket from the turbo to the DP, I think two for the mid pipe connection to the DP and catback. 2 cats. One on the DP as I stated earlier. One under the car. It might pass emissions, but if they look under your hood for a cat and see nothing you are fuc*ed.

There are stories of people passing emissons with no cats. Here in Arlington, VA they don't have four wheel dynos so they never smog test the engline under load. I recently went catless and am hoping to pass emissions when the times comes. The only way to go catless is to gut your current ones or get a new exhause system.

I am hollowing the cats out...not taking them off completely..

im pretty sure it will not pass emissions. thats probably why they have 2 cats instead of 1.

ok in order to pass cattless you need to do a few things. make sure your o2 sensor is working verry well,as in get a new one if your not getting something like 20mpg. than do a tune up of wires and plugs. raise your idle to about 900 rpm and go for it. its a 2 speed idle test adn with that you should pass

I am gonna swap on my catless pipe and go take a voluntary emissions test. I feel like I'll pass OK, even without an oxygen sensor.

BAC 5.2, does the state of Maryland do both a visual and gas content check? In VA they do but I'm hoping what when the times comes I can pass it. I've heard our cars run pretty clean.

Yea, they do visual, but I've NEVER been visually tested. In any car I've taken, I've never had the mirror go under the car.

They are also supposed to dyno the AWD cars, but I've yet to have them do that in my car.

HaHAHAHAH! We have no emissions in wyoming!!!!!!!!!!!! Why cause we all ride horses everywhere!!!! nO really we don't but , anyway.

Is there a noticibly big increase in power without the cats? I have got a new exhaust to go on the car, but the last part I need is either a cat or lack-there-of pipe. Let me know.

azn2nr thanks for answering one of the questions. Did you retest yet? My ex 97 OB Leg. tested the gas cap sealing, plugged in the obd2 for codes and did the pipe sniff. I want to be prepared for my 92 turbo Legacy getting tested.
