Intake charge temps

Post by Legacy777 »

Was curious if anyone has done any testing to see what kind of intake charge temps they are experiencing with the stock turbo at stock boost levels, and elevated boost levels, and/or with a different turbo.

I'd like to have some temp info before I go and pick up a radiator for the awic. If I can't find one skinny enough and/or big enough, I may look into getting one custom made. Or the other thought is to put 2 or possibly three of the smaller transmission coolers in series/parallel.

cool!

So I assume those are temps without the intercooler.

Thanks Vikash.

On the dyno, my IC temp was 122 degrees after the second pull, then waited 10 minutes for cool down, sprayed the IC with brake parts cleaner, and had at it again.

I did a couple just for fun runs on the interstate tonight and had to pop the hood due to another intercooler pipe being blown off but damn that turbo was glowing bright red. Intercooler is always cool tho.

Just something to remember, on the dyno, the IC is going to be hotter (TMIC at least) than on the street. There's a LOT less airflow through the IC on the dyno.

One of the many advantages to FMIC's is consistant inlet temps.

Weeee, dyno tomorrow morning, im not expecting very much tho. I raced my friend's early 90's acura integra tonight out in the country at 1 am. Smoked him from a stop but from a roll in second gear it took me until the top of third to pass him. Then fourth left him behind. I think the boost gauge was only reading about 5 psi at some points tho. I hate my manual boost controller.

Hey Josh do you have the front end apart? if so do you have the max measurements for yor custom unit?.... You know the reason I ask.
I havent heard back from Art yet but I will see him this weekend at an event. Keep me posted on your route and I'll do the same, hell maybe we can get a package deal on some custom fab work. :P

No I don't have the front end apart. I've been really thinking on what to do, and just haven't come up with a solution yet. Snowjob posted the FSM for an overseas legacy, so I have all the info regarding the stock AWIC setup, which is great.

I have been thinking, and what I'm probably going to do is put the motor in as stock with no I/C, take some intake temp measurements, and go from there.

If I don't go with a custom radiator, the other option was to put two smaller radiators like what Laurel is using in parellel or series.
