I think a better idea than this would be to get a JDM Legacy GX or Forester X transmission and throw that in. You wouldn't have a front LSD, but you'd have a center LSD instead of a center open. Plus it would bolt right up no problem. It would also be a stronger transmission design than the EA cars design. From what I hear though the input shaft doesn't like a lot of power. Also, it may be possible to just toss the input shaft into a non-hi/lo tranmission, maybe even a pull stlye transmission, but really you'd have to do some measurements to be sure.

Wait... this guy took a standard 5-speed tranny and somehow gave it high and low range? That's pretty bad ass...
And he's offering the modification to the public for a small fee?
Neat.

This mod mates an EA series 5MT D/R transmission to an EJ engine and adds a fritction type (phantom grip) LSD. The largest engine the factory ever used with the EA trans was the ER27 from the XT6, 145HP/156TQ, and they held up quite well. So this could be a good setup for a stock N/A EJ22, but I think a turbo or built N/A 2.2 might tear it up pretty quick. But if you read the referenced thread you’ll note that he has installed one in a 2.5 Forester… time will tell.
Gary
P.S. If anyone can figure out an affordable way to get the non-USDM D/R EJ boxes into the US I’m sure they would sell very well.

No matter how broke I am... I always seem to find two cents.
I dunno about european models, but at least some first gen JDM legacy GX's had them for sure. And I believe one trim level of all JDM forsters have them.
