Front axles

Post by legacy2 »

ok, im dumb, i cant get the 2 front axles off my 91 legacy. i took the brake assembly off, the spring pin for the axle, and the big nut that holds one end of the axle on. i moves but i need at least another 1/4 inch to get it off. I dont know if this has to do with anything but these axles were put on about 700 miles ago. any help?

You didn't need to even touch the brakes.

You need to get the hub to swing away from the car so you have room to pull the axle out of the hub. There are several ways to do this: popping the hub off the balljoint, taking the strut bolts out (this requires care as you can lose your alignment settings), or taking the whole control arm off the body. I personally find that popping the hub off the balljoint works best for me.
