So THAT'S how much boost I'm running.....

Post by IronMonkeyL255 »

I finally got around to installing a boost gauge in my LT today.

I'm pretty impressed with Summit Racing. I ordered the gauge (an Autometer Sport Comp vac/boost gauge, 3301) and mounting cup from them on Monday, and I found it on my doorstep this afternoon.

I hooked everything (except for the light) up, and voila! I can now see how little boost I'm running.

Here's some crappy pics:

I hooked up the light a little while ago.

I just ganked the ashtray light for use on the gauge. That way, it dims with my main dimmer.

Yep, that's what I tapped into. You gotta have dimmer control. 8)

I didn't tap into it, I just took the connection there and hooked the gauge to it.

I'll never miss the light, and if I do, I kept it so I can put it back in if I want to.

lol... looks like I'm lazier than you guys. My gauges just have lights on or off with the car lights - I saw that the rheostat was reversed and didn't want to deal with it. The ashtray light is a good idea though... I don't need a lighted trash bin :)

I could have gotten the whole a-pillar, but I just got the wounting cup.

Everything is steel, so it will hold up, and I can easily modify it if I have to.

I set it so it wasn't right in plain sight from outside. I had been kicking around the idea of mounting it on that little triangular piece of plastic that covers the side mirror screws (on the door), but it wouldn't fit too easily. I may mount an electric gauge there later, but not now.

I didn't realize we make full boost by 3K. I knew I was making boost by ~2500, but not full boost.....

Now all I have to do is move my overflow tank so I can put in my i/c and crank up some boost.

That's the same kind of gauge pod I have in the RX (I actually have two of them in the RX, one for the boost gauge and one for the A/F gauge)...simple design and unbelievably cheap (that's one of the very few parts where Autometer is actually LESS expensive than VDO).

so how MUCH boost does your shinny new gauge say you are running? different than you thought....

I need to order a different boost gauge, as my VDO makes the MOST annoying rattle at certain throttle positions (right at vac/boost threshhold)
how much for the Autometer? $50?

BTW, I have the same "cup" but mounted it on the sterring column (stealth). I'm going to replace the bright finish screws with black when I swap out a new gauge (my only complaint is that chrome finish)

yeah, I spray-painted the chrome mounting pieces black. Cup mounts work great on our flat A-pillar.

Ya, I used a black paint pen to make the screw on my pod black.

I paid $43 for the gauge, and $13 for the mounting pod.

I thought that was a pretty sweet price, considering everywhere else is $55-$60 for the gauge and $20-$25 for the cup.....

I looked at putting it on the steering column, but it just visually cut off too much of my gauges.
