What is wrong with my sunroof?

Post by IronMonkeyL255 »

Everything seems to be in good mechanical condition, but my sunroof will not open under its own power.

Right now, I have the headliner out and the control unit sitting on my kitchen table.

Is there anything I can check on there? Anything I can check anywhere?

there is a little black box that controles everything up in the head liner near the motor, take it down and open it up. one of the risitors gets loose and it makes it not work. solder it back on, 3 of my legacy turbos had the same problem in hot days it would work.

I'v got the guts of the box in front of me right now.

What are the transistors? How would I check?

n/m. I figured it out.

all the transistors and resistors were good, but one of the realys had partially de-soldered itself. I just re-soldered it (messily, but securely) ad voila! Working sunroof.

That makes me so happy it's not even funny.......

There are only 2 transistors on there, quite a few resistors, and 2 big, black relays. The relays only have 2 connections apiece, and one of the connections on one of the relays had de-soldered itself.

Now it opens and closes with absolutely no problem. This is sooooo sweet.

Also, when I pulled out the motor, the sunroof got somewhat slanted while popping it back up. I fixed that, too.

Now if anyone else has this problem, I can give step-by-step instructions.

Also, today I took out my HVAC unit and re-soldered all that was messed up with it (I saw about 3 spots, but re-soldered quite a few more for the hell of it).

Now I don't have to worry about if a passenger turns off the vent and not being able to turn it on for a week.........

What a great way to start off the new year, by bringing back an old thread haha. Not sure how you came across it. Anyway, if you have the "Exact" same problem, then yes I would open it up and check.
