Alternator whine

Post by Tleg93 »

My stereo whines when I'm using the tape player. I'm guessing it must be a filter cap that has gone bad or maybe a bad ground somewhere. The noise is being introduced by the alternator windings I believe.

stereo whine

Post by kleinkid »

Is the whine louder when the heater defroster is selected and the fan on? Just curious. I had that problem with a Alpine HU and a MTX Amp. I made sure the HU ground and the Amp ground were connected to the same bare metal place. I bought a Ground -Loop Isolator from Radio Shack, part no. 270-054, and a pair of f-f adapters and plugged the isolator in between the HU and the amp . The amp has the front speakers and the sub and the HU amp has the rear speakers. After installing the ground loop isolator the whine has gone .
