My wife had her key in the ignition and the other key went into the trailer light hookup. She said there were lots of sparks and that the key got hot. She said the key was in there for a couple seconds.

Now the car won't start unless I do the same thing (one key in the 12V trailer hookup and one in the ignition). The wire that the trailer hookup is tapped into (goes to the ignition) has power. The switch works in the accessory position, but won't start the car.

Do I need a new ignition switch? Is there points inside it that could be burnt out?

You've checked the fuses, right?

First thing I checked.

Turns out that the part that I thought was for trailer lights was actually a dealer installed ignition bypass security thing.

Took it out (wonder why it wasn't taken out by the dealer when it was first sold in '94? ) and the car starts just fine.
