My 91SS at a recent autocross

Post by Warp3 »

Sorry for the picture quality, but it was a night event after all...

Those white letters/numbers were created with my black 2.5RS in mind, not the silver Legacy, so they don't quite show up as well as I'd like. I was toward the back of the pack in SM (I'm normally at the front of SM in my cammed 2.5RS), but it didn't do too badly considering my only mods are a 16G running 10psi and the wheel/tire combo (and the tires are all-seasons at that (205/50-16 Falken Ziex 512)) and its a 4EAT.

Well generally I'm at the front of (if not leading) SM locally in my 2.5RS (which is far better prepped for autocross), but it has a stripped tranny crossmember bolt that needs fixed before I start autocrossing it again, so the Legacy is acting as a filler for season points. Between the auto tranny and the 16G, I just can't launch this thing to save my life and by the time it hits boost, it's time to brake.

The only other pics I have of the car thus far are the ones I took when I first got the car (in which it still has the stock wheels, but otherwise looks pretty much the same).

Here is the post with those pics:

you must be a really good driver then.

out here sm is lead by three cars. a stage 4+ golf gti in third and a 550 whp evo and a really striped out tuned up badass of a e36 m3 fighting for first. usualy the top 2 cars are about 2 seconds faster than the third car back but the evo doesnt run that much. mostly because he thinks the place we use most often is useless because its so slick and if he does run there he has to have a codriver. really stupid especialy since he purpose built the car for autox. oh well.

I'd consider myself a pretty good driver, but one *big* advantage I have is that we have pretty small lots locally, so the courses are relatively tight which works in my car's favor. With the low end grunt of the 2.5RS (which lets me easily pull out of tight turns in 2nd), the smaller than stock rolling diameter (225/50-15 Victoracers, 4% smaller than the stock size of 205/55-16), the already tight gearing of the 2.5RS (50mph top speed in 2nd on stock-sized tires), and the fact that most of my mods are suspension related mean that small courses are very good to me (I've had some courses were my top speed was 45mph which isn't even all the way through 2nd and that's even with the smaller tires). Get a bigger course where 3rd gear is needed and those advantages quickly vanish and more powerful cars tend to take over.

Man, SM is competitive out here!

Every from of Supra to heavily modded CRX to STi/WRX to anything and everything.

I'm glad my friend isn't going to be able to auto-x his soon to be completed WRX. Looking to get around 600whp without nitrous. Car is built more for time-attack racing, than AutoX. He'd never spool the turbo up.
2009 Outback 2.5XT. 5MT. Satin White Pearl.
2009 Impreza 2.5i Premium. Blue.
