Legacy BE Headlight Options

Post by ubersti »

I''ve been searching around the net and have found very little headlight alternatives for the BE's. I have a GT Limited with one broken and thought I could replace it with some nice JDM lights. Well I may be reduced to using the GT limited lamps or other models? Don't know if outbacks or regular legacies were different than the GT that year. Help please.

You may want to go here:

www.4agtoys.com/SUBARULEGACY

They're a bit more focused on 2nd gen legacies like yours, (I'm there to help you, too, ) and you'll get less flames for tossing 'JDM' and 'lights' in the same sentence.

Is pointing out the fact that JDM lights just aren't suitable for North American roads a "flame?" Cuz it's true.

You do have a few options, Rob, but none are cheap or easy to obtain. It does suck that Subaru decided to put such lousy headlights on BEs. The GT's lights are a little better than the base model's, but they still leave a lot to be desired.

If you can somehow get your hands on some European-market BE headlights, those would be great. It's probably no help, but I do have the FHI part numbers: 84001AE200 and 84001AE210.

Aside from that, I think you're limited to custom work using, for example, the 90mm Hella headlights that evolutionmovement is using in his custom lights on his 1st-gen.

Otherwise, you're limited to getting high-output standard-wattage bulbs, and installing a heavy-duty wiring harness. These two will make a very noticeable difference on their own, and should be done even if you do switch lamps.

I've been doing vikash-style anti-jdm-lighting rants over at SLi, and they don't listen.. :(

It sucks fighting the good fight..
