So my friend and I are driving up to go camping up a curvy mountain road. I'm doing a fair bit of shifting between 2-3-4 and then all the sudden I go to shift and the clutch pedal sticks on the way back up. Three shifts later it sticks and won't come up until I pull on it with my toe. The next time I put the clutch all the way down it stays there and won't come up and the engine won't engage the tranny.
I roll to the side of the road and pop the hood and find that the clutch fork is way down from the two adjusting nuts. So I spin the nuts down to where it will engage the clutch and go back inside and put the clutch completely to the floor and let out. It comes back up but there is absolutely no pedal free play. So I get out and have to move the nut about 1/2" back up to get any freeplay. After locking the locknut I go ahead and cautiously drive off.
All goes well for a little bit then it does it again. Same senario, spin the adjusting nut down, clutch in, decides to come back out, loosen adjusting nut to original position, all is well. I made it all the back without trouble and went to the next town over to drop off my friend without trouble too.
However, all my shifting has been after putting the clutch in just enough to disengage so I can shift and not putting it all the way down except to start the car. The clutch doesn't seem to slipping any but I'm a bit hesitant about trusting that the problem is gone and also what the problem really is. Sometimes it shifts a little hard coming out of 3rd, clicks/kicks out instead of gliding out of gear.
Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? I'm thinking maybe throwout bearing problems? Thanks.

Could be throw out bearing or syncro issues, but how does the gear jump? Does it only do it when the clutch is disengaged? Does it act like it wants to shift itself into the next gear? Mine sometimes feels like it wants to jump into the next gear as if spring loaded and I think that's what it is as I have no issues with it.
As for the nuts, tighten the shit out of them and use locktite. I use a small pair of visegrips on the other side of the fork to hold the threaded cable while tightening.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
It doesn't so much jump a gear as much as half kicks itself out while I'm shifting out of gear, like I didn't get the clutch all the way in. I don't think it's syncro issues because it still shifts smooth and hits all the gears without issue, except the odd hard shift out of 3rd, but still shifts smooth into 4th.
The nuts aren't moving on the threaded cable. That I'm positive of. For whatever reason the clutch fork just won't return back to the normal released position. Like something inside is hanging up. Any ideas?

Surely there are some other opinions, I'm open to suggestions. I haven't had any trouble with it though the other day it felt like it was thinking about going south but I just tried not to shift for a little bit and it seemed to settle out. Seems like it's heat/stress related.
