Bike Question

Post by corsair »

I think Phil would have an answer but I figured I'd make this open season. I've been doing a lot of cleaning and stuff at home and we have 5 bikes. Only 1 is really worth getting rid of but thats beside the point. I want to hang them from the ceiling by their wheels. Is this safe? For the bikes that is.

Oh and if you were wondering they're a rather mixed bunch.

1 Road Crapster MTB
1 Trek 820 (nothing special but it's my baby)

On a side note I'd like to add another 2 wheel companion in the space they previously occupied, especially this fall.

You'll be fine. There are some MTB forks that didn't like being upside down but that won't be a problem for ya. And you can never have to many bikes...there's 5 in my 600sqft apartment :D

I've stored bikes in that fashion before for about eight months and I never had any problems.

that is the only way all the bikes at my house would fit. there are about 10 in the bike room mostly hanging from the cieling. what we did was screw 2x4's perpendicular to the joists so we could get the bikes closer together than the joists were, if that makes any sense.

Perfectly fine, just only hang from the rear wheel or both wheels. Hanging from the front isn't necessarily BAD, but you'll knock yourself in the head when you go to take it down.

I'll never hang any of my bikes, but I have been around since the birthdays of Hydraulic Discs that leaked when they were hung, and forks that would shit their oil all over when upside down. None of that is the case anymore, but I've got the room to not hang it, so I don't. Not to mention that there probably wasn't to many hooks that could have held my downhill bike.

I've got some of the earlier rock shox, and I've hung my bike, and it's been alright. It's hanging right now because I need the damn room.

It was mostly the original Manitou's that leaked.
