So, on this mexi-mobile, what is a good sub-1000 dollar upgrade path? Power, handling, or a little of both.

there is no mexican model. they're cracking a joke, the L didn't come in turbo - only the sport sedan (SS) and Touring Wagon had a turbo model.
for the turbo engine, a good sub-1000 dollar upgrade path is an aftermarket downpipe, uppipe, and.. pretty much it IIRC.

leave it stock and replace some wear items?
If you don't know what you want, don't waste your money.

wow...the 'L' was in reference to Legacy. I was unaware that it came in an 'L' trim so I can see where it would cause confusion. The car is a '94 SS...little over 150k miles. Is mating a WRX turbo to it with an aftermarket TBE difficult?

with a little over 150 grand, you've got ALOT of wear items to replace.
start with the suspension.

Do some research before you arbitrarily start buying things. Figure out what you want out of the car, then buy stuff. Me personally I wouldn't waste the time on a WRX turbo.

well crap! i'm assuming brakes, belts and...oh yea, its an auto
brief other ?: would these be considered 'not slow' or 'kinda quick?' Before I did much research, and got caught up in the "2.2 fully closed deck." I thought these were fast cars...someone put me back in reality.

They're fast enough to get you in trouble.

17.3 stock at near to 5000 feet.
modded about >2k in poweradders 14.94 in the rain
cant wait to see what 3k in poweradders gets.
oh and mines a slushbox too.
sub 1000 mod if you want to keep your auto get a spare torq converter find a local shop that can mod it for higher stall for cheap, have them mod it and install it.

No need to do the up-pipe. The OEM one is beefy and catless already.
OK, you have $1000 and you want da power aye? Here's a list of what I'd do.
1. Take out snorkus (free!)
2. TBE. Nothing crazy, maybe an HKS DP and a "2.5-"3 mild steel cat back.
2. Boost gauge
3. Saab 900 TMIC
4. MBC
5. FCD
This will allow you to run 13-14 psi daily. You will have about 210-220 chp and the car will be much more fun to drive.
I agree with what others have said though. I would fix all the small stuff before I started power modding the car.

Pfffff.....Pffffffff...oh, sorry, just trying to resurrect a dead thread.
I like the list scuzzy provided, I would like to replace the stock (150k miles) turbo though. Is a WRX turbo (TD04) a good one to go with? I think I only want to go up to about 12lbs of boost...I know that turbo will do over 16PSI without issue. Also, how 'bout WRX injectors?

my 93 SS has over 253,000 miles on it, and my turbo is running as strong as ever, I'm having major trouble with replacing stupid little stuff that breaks with that much wear: heater core, simple hoses and clamps, gaskets, etc.
If you wanna go towards performance stuff, definitely replace suspension/braking stuff first, you can only go so fast if you hafta stay in a straight line, I think Yukonart had it as his signature....power is nothing without control, that can't be emphasized enough. cruise on nasioc and find some newer WRX owner swapping suspension and buy that stuff and put it on, raises the car a good few inches since our struts are pretty much shot at 12 years...and the handling is sooo much nicer/better, feels like your driving a completely different car.

To my understanding, a stock WRX turbo is not that much better than ours. If you want a turbo, go with a 16G or VF39, jdm and usdm respectively.
