spring opinions?

Post by gt350 »

I have access to some wrx springs(free) and according to the chart the fronts have a little higer rate but the rears have less spring rate. would putting in the softer rears hurt the handeling? should I just leave the stock rears in? just looking for a little free handeling mods if it's worth it.[/b]

hmm, yeah, i thought you might have trouble getting an answer here. It seems most people think all spring questions have been beatin to death.

well, from what i have gathered from reading here, just based on the spring rates, putting stiffer springs in the front and softer in the rear will cause the car understeer a bit. I would prolly forget the rear springs if the existing ones have a higher rate. If understeer is a problem i think you could prolly put in a stiffer rear sway bar to neutralize a bit.

Anyway, are you still on stock struts? If you put the front springs on, you might consider getting a set of gr-2s to go with them. maybe even AGX's. I think you'll need a different upper spring seat as well. Up here in Boulder we have Super Rupair, they have tons of used parts, should be easy to dig up the proper part.

So let me tell you where i am at with my suspension! I got GR-2's and they're great but they make the front end ride really high, So what I am thinking of doing is putting some RS springs in the front - should drop it a bit. they are a bit softer then the wrx springs but somewhat firmer then the stock springs. So if i try it i'll let you know how it turns out.

anyway, i'm no expert - perhaps one of many on this board will correct any ill-conceived notions i may have spouted in this post.
