B9 Tribeca - Opinions?
I just saw an Tribeca commercial and thought "What do the rest of the "old Subaru" owners think?"
I think Subaru dropped the ball on this one. The thing looks like ass. I don't know how it drives, but it looks like somebody took a drawing from the Infiniti design center and put a Subaru badge on it.
I wouldn't buy that thing if I had the money..I'd save 5g's and buy an '05 Legacy GT.

The front is ugly and the rest looks derivative of the RX330. At least it looks like it's built well.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

While the Aztek is ugly as hell (imo, the wheels are too small), it has a lot of room. And I mean...a lot.Fuzzylee wrote:Almost as ugly as a PontiAACCKK A**tek.

Well, my wife absolutely loves it and wants one really bad. I'm not real big on the exterior but the interior is pretty damn pimp.
She said she'd "settle" for a FXT but I'm working her on the LGT with everything I got!

It could look a lot worse. I personally think it looks alright. They're pretty large inside, and I love the flow of the dash. I'd buy one.

i think it is a very good vehicle. could use a bit more leg/cargo room for the 3rd row. love the interior. think the front is odd but growing on me. love the back. i think the little triangle windows in front by the dash in the a pillar are odd. love the puddle lights on the running boards. i think it needs a bit more pwer and towing capacity. i think they should make a longer wheelbase version like on the envoy XL. i would drive one. wife loves it. i would prefer a 5mt 05 LGT wagon. why 05 you ask? they are dropping the 5mt from the LGT wagon in 06.

I think Subaru made an EXCELLENT marketing decision with this vehicle.
1. Draw-in potential SUV buyers with historical reliability and legendary AWD.
2. Get said buyers hooked on Subarus.
3. A few years down the road, discontinue the B9 and offer an even better Legacy.
4. Profit. (Sway SUV owners away from the bloated vehicles they're used to and get them into wagons, where they should have been to begin with)

The front end is not aesthetically pleasing to me. While the engineeering of it may be great, the looks of the front end alone may be enough to hurt sales (in my opinion). Everytime I look at that front end, I can feel my face go into a mild contortion with an obvious look of winced disbelief.
Last week I was at a Subaru dealer and the salesman said the new front end design comes from FHI's involvement in building airplanes. He said the new Suby front ends are designed to look like an airplane. Pointing to the Tribeca he said, "Just imagine a prop attached to the nose. And the rest of the grill represent the wings of the plane."
"A prop? A prop?" I thought in disbelief (again). So, now the added dimension of looking antiquated was added to my view of the front end.
And he said the front passenger compartment is designed to look like a cockpit.
But I truly hope Subaru sales take off like a plane (jet, not prop) and then perhaps they'll make it look better?

sales of this vehicle will be very disappointing
Subaru is very well-positioned to get the rebound business as people flee SUV's and back off toward road cars, with wagons the perfect middle ground for those used to the hauling capacity
this vehicle really does little to help that cause, Subaru was the anti-SUV now they've got one of their own.
Bottom line though is that it is too expensive, which will hurt sales more than the fact that its fugly

I don't know man, the local dealership here said they're selling as soon as they hit the lot if not preordered.
People forget that non-subie enthusiasts seem to love the "new look" of Subaru. I think sales will actually increase with the new designed Impreza and stuff.
The Tribeca is hitting at kind of a bad time or good depending on how you look at it. The price of gas will hurt the entire SUV market but at the same time the B9 is a SUV that gets better gas mileage them most and that could have potential SUV buyers going to the B9 as a happy medium.

Yeah the B9 is a little too much at $35k. At least IMO.....but whatever.
As mentioned, I think the non subaru buyers are starting to like the look of subaru more because it's a little more mainstream. However they may be losing some of their older clientel.

Next step from abandoning their loyal past owners is losing the boxer - what do the new monkeys care whan a corporate V6, perhaps shared with GM, would be easier to fit and cheaper to make. Ignore your loyal owners and become just another car. Happened a hundred times.
I think public opinion is also moving against SUVs. Subaru's a little late to the party. Tribecas are loading up on the lots around here.

Yeah....subaru is way to late in the SUV game. Even if they may have a better SUV...it's too late, and everyone's starting pack up and go home.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to sell well. Sort of like the baja....

My dealer that I've bought all my parts from says they can't move Tribecas either.
The customers say: "I love the interior and all that, but I can't get past that front end. Also the price is waaay too expensive. We've looked at a Nissan Murano and we think that's a much better midsize SUV for the money."
Oh, and...
