Funky noise's

Post by Pat »

Hey guys,

This question has probably been asked before,

Im driving a '92 GT wagon,
Ive done a lot of work on it lately.. New hoses, oil + filter and all that jazz.

The car is running great but theres a strange noise coming from the engine,
Its a loud metallic tapping sound that used to go away after about 5 mins but is now heard all the time.

I was told it the car was just due for a service... Which I did last weekend and it hasent helped at all.

Anyone know whats going on?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like it might be HLA noise. Check your oil level again to make sure it's full. Sometimes low oil levels can cause the noise.

What brand oil filter did you use?

Yeah, you probably have it right. The most common tapping noise is the hydraulic lifters adjusting themselves. However, 5 minutes seems to be a long time for them to take to adjust. ej22t is right, you probably want to check your oil level.

Ive checked the oil and added some more even tho it was near full already,

It hasnt helped..

Im not sure what brand the filter is, I bought it from a repco and have already thrown the box away.

Ive been reading back a bit in the forum about the knock sensor and how some peoples crack,
Could this have something to do with it?
Were is it so I can check?

It has to be the hydro valve lifter, it may enventually fix itself, you can`t do much about it. sometimes crap gets in the oil passage.
