Got fired. No money=no mods

Post by Suzie-Q »

Damn my opinionated self! I don't like being walked on, so when my manager acted stupid for the 134th time, I couldn't take it anymore. I said I'd quit if she got promoted. Guess what? She is. My general manager took my threat very seriously and fired me. Damn. I guess my rims and springs and paint job will have to wait.

But you can live with yourself for not being a kiss ass and that's priceless. I got fired for backing up copies of my novels on the company HDD or, officially, 'using company property to store or disseminate sexually explicit material'. I did get full severance and pay up until my date of termination which was to be two months later (tghe site was packing up for Malaysia anyway). Also had security follow me for a day due to the terrorism subject matter   . Put my mods off for a while, but things work out for the better anyways. Maybe you can take the chance to get a job you'd like more, if possible. Good luck.

I just got shitcanned too. I did everything for this company....came in on my day off, spied on other employees (like they asked), looked for a car for the managers sister....and out of nowhere...."We're going to have to let you go."

PHUCK them!!

Something bigger and better was handed to me....and I'm sure something just as good will come along to everyone else who got fired or quit.

thanks guys! i'm seriously stuck though. i'm going to college in three weeks and it's almost an hour away. i'm planning on getting a job there when school starts, but i can't drive that far every day until then, so it's pointless to get a job now when i can't even get there. it's pointless for me to get a job by my house because i'll have to quit in three weeks. i don't have any money to hold me over for three weeks, so i think i'll just bum money off my brother and friends like they do to me every day :D it'll all work out, i'm sure. and it's nice to get away from the smell of burgers and fries!

Pssht! Don't sweat it then. You'll just have to suffer through school as another starving college student and when you get out you can drive through your old work in your slick new car and get your food from the manager who may still be there. Starving builds character anyway. I am a Ramen-diet survivor. But to paraphrase Pulp Fiction, just because I am a character, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I have character.

Get yourself a Sams wharehouse membership so you can buy Ramen noodles by the case...then get a pre-loaded spice rack and go crazy. When mom and dad send you a few extra bucks head down to the local mart and get you some chicken parts to add to the mix....maybe some veggies...

Who hasn't been there before.

Below is a link for all things Ramen...enjoy.

I think we don't have Sams in WA. Maybe the equivalent would be Costco?

But good advice though, starve yourself to save for car stuff.

I hear Costco and BJ's blows Sams out of the water.

What does a Costco membership cost?

Depends on what "level" you get. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $35/year

Not to hijack the thread, but if you have a family, that BJ's or Costco membership pays for itself after your first visit there. Food and what not is so cheap compared to places like Giant or FoodLion.

That sucks you got fired. I'd have to agree, go on the ramen noodle and tobasco diet. There's always other jobs out there.
I work for IBM and pretty much just jack around all the time and they won't fire me for some odd reason but i'm thinking of quitting anyway. When i worked third shift i would take the work phone and go home, then come back early in the morning before the boss showed up.

Whoa, getting fired sucks.

However, the words of wisdom should guide you:

Everything Happens For A Reason.

This Too Shall Pass.

. . . Just some I can come up with now. Nothing breakingly insightful, but know that we feel you, Suzie-Q.

Just goes to show you that you should never do what the company says if it says to do shitty things or go 'the extra mile'. In the end they'll hang you out to dry. Never bust your balls to go in on your days off. They'll drop you like a bad habit if they're in trouble. Everyone's out for themselves, don't forget it. You may find folks that aren't like this, there's some on this board, but by and large they're blood-suckers.

I've done a lot of stuff for my Toyota dealership that I wasn't really required to.

I still have job security, but an employee must always remember this saying:

When you go above and beyond expectations, your accomplishment will become your boss's new expectations.

Your boss will appreciate your extra effort initially, but they will always think it's PERMANENT extra effort, and when you no longer put forth that extra effort for whatever reason, but still meet the position's previous criteria, they will begin to see you as a slacker.

subawhat: exactly. i worked overtime (>40 hrs/wk) during my senior year this year, while taking 6 classes, 3 of which were college classes. i was by far one of the top 5 workers out of a crew of 63. oh well. it's their loss, not mine.

laurel  : i am going to eastern washington university. you should come party. i'm living in a party dorm :)

subyluvr: totally what happened. i suddenly became like everyone else as soon as i started saying no. i was no longer the only person in the store to come whenever they needed help!

by the way: i have an update on my employment status. i have an interview at jack in the box tomorrow! yayyy! more fast food!

Why not go to an auto parts store? It will get you a discount on parts(albeit mostly shitty ones), give you more than minimum wage, and give you some free and basic training on automotive systems. I know that Schucks/Checker/Kragen are all having lots of trouble keeping employees in their stores, so it would likely be an easy interview too.

Suzie- You should come party. I live in a party house. ;) If you ever want to come out to the seattle area, you've got a place to crash for a few nights. :)

i'm quitting in 2 and a half weeks anyway, if i get the job. but they don't know that. i'm going to cheney, a town with no more than 50 businesses in close range to my dorm. i have to find another job when i start school, so i'm not being too picky.

laurel- do you go to school? i've always wanted to take a road trip to seattle and then down the coast. i'm thinking about doing it on spring break.
