I'm runnign the WRX i/c now. An extra special thanks to Vikash and Phil. Also thanks to Sam and Scott for their help too.

I'll post some pics and the story soon. :D

Ok here are some pictures. Story to come later.

Vikash loaned me his feet when cutting the TB.

She's in!

We also upgraded my DV to an all metal one that looks like the OEM one. It performs MUCH better and is a lot louder too. It's killer.

Relocated coolant tank to the fuel filter location and used a fuel filter for a 240SX instead. I'm going to polish this setup up later.

I've seen the all metal replacement for the stock DV somewhere, I think it was the MRT website. Where did you get yours? How much did it cost?

It looks like you did a nice job installing your i/c.

So you noticed better performance with the metal bypass valve compared to the stock one?

This metal bypass valve was stock from an Audi 5000 Turbo of some year (don't know what year; maybe all of them). If Matt would be so kind as to take a picture of the sticker on it, you'll see that it's actually made by Denso (like our stock valve) and probably has a similar internal structure as our stock one.

Incidentally, the MkIII Supra Turbo blowoff valve is also made by Denso and also has a metal housing and also has the same form factor as our stock one.

I'd also like to know more about the metal BPV.

Yes, it's much crisper. It seems to divert the air much more quickly then the OEM DV. The OEM one was kinda slow and I was getting very mild compressor surge during WOT shifts. With this one I get zero comp surge and is very sharp and precise. It also seems to be slightly louder but still very mellow, which is nice.

Part of the increased performance could be from the location of the DV plumbing though too. The WRX TMIC setup is much closer to the TB then my Saab 900 setup and that could be a large part of the reason it's so much better.

why did u cut the tb?
was it because u won't have to bang in the firewall!
also can't i just run the stock wrx bov?

it hits the throttle cables thats why you cant use the wrx bov. and cutting the throttle body would make it alot easier to fit the thing in there. I personally just cut the ic outlet about a 2/8th of an inch cause i didnt wanna cut the tb.

Yes, cutting the TB or i/c outlet will allow the unit to fit much better.

You can run the oem WRX DV or an aftermarket BOV but you need to "trim" the cruise control throttle linkage.

You can use certain aftermarket WRX blowoff valves if you cut the cruise control part out. BAC5.2 did; he's got a GReddy Type S or something.

But, yes, the stock WRX blowoff valve won't fit, even if you cut out cruise; the valve's outlet line interferes with the cables.

Even with the cut throttle body, we still did have to do quite a bit of banging on the firewall, the ignitor pedestal, and the hood. It's a tight fit.

On rallysam's car it was different because his David Carter hood had much more clearance.

the only thing i had to hit was the igniter pedestal. the i/c has a good 1/2" of clearance in the back, and its never hit the hood. i cut the throttle body and the i/c. i have a turboxs type h bov - requires no cutting of the throttle cables, but it is pretty loud, if i ever get my fmic in i'm going back to a recirc valve.

Does the WRX IC hit the clutch MC? I ask this because my Saab IC does, and I can't imagine that the WRX IC is thinner than the Saab.

outback master cylinders and WRX master cylinders are shorter (WRX is the shortest) but the outback m/c fits under my i/c great

If you can sit the IC high enough, then it won't hit the clutch resevoir. My fiberglass hood allowed me to do that, but I'm not sure how much of the stock hood you would have to cut to do the same thing.
