legacycentral bbs

the impreza based cars use totally different looking starters than the legacy uses.

my question is which starter would a guy use on a SS if he put a RS transmission and rearend in?

are the legacy and impreza transmissions that different then?

the 4eat starter engages on the ring gear in the torque converter and the starter on a 5mt engages on the flywheel. correct?

You want to use a starter for the specific transmission you use. The newer transmissions don't have the stud in the transmission case for the starter. I think it's two bolts.....I may be wrong, but I know it's different.

both types of starter have holes in them so a stud and a bolt or two bolts shouldnt matter. the big difference that i can see is that the impreza starter has a "nose"


while the legacy starter doesnt have that nose covering the gear. and the legacy starter is a reduction drive type starter.
