bad coolant temperature sensor side effects?

just replaced my failed coolant temperature sensor. the car threw a code for the CTS and knock sensor.

the car would barely start when it was cooler out (65-55 deg.) and would run like crap untill the engine temp gauge got in the middle.

it would start then die. or not start at all. and it wouldnt hold an idle and if you gave it gas it would stall out.

this will cause the engine to run lean or rich depending on if the CTS was reading too hot or too cold, correct?

could a bad CTS hurt my mpg?

Mine had the same problems with mine. Crappy idle, holding my foot to the floor to start it, crappy mileage, less boost, fuel cut and retarded timing. I noticed an immediate difference when I changed my CTS. The guy at Checker didn't believe me when I went to buy the new sensor. I came back and enlightened him on how dependant ecu's are on their sensors. He said he was a small block Chevy guy and thanked me for the info. I'm sure the next guy to come along with a similar problem will be better off.

What is a mog?

Ah, miles per gallon. The bad CTS hurt mine. Sucker reeked of unburned fuel alot. This site has saved me a lot of trouble. Much thanks to everyone. Be sure to reset your ECU.
