Identifying an exhaust leak

Anyone have a tip or technique they use with good success to identify an exhaust leak.

I'm pretty sure that I have one because I can hear an exhaust sound (while driving) that sounds like it is coming from near the front catalytic converter/y pipe. But when I get under the car it is hard to id by sound because of the engine noise and typical exhaust sound coming from the muffler.

If you feed the engine some Sea Foam the exhaust will be very visible because of the smoke.

Also, if you cover (or partially cover) the tailpipes with the engine idling, more exhaust gas will be forced out the leak.

^^^ Ditto. If you're really brave, or have a gulliable helper, seafoam it and block the exhaust a little.

telltale sign of an exhaust leak is soot around the edge of the crack or whatever. get under the car with it running and you can hear it pretty well I bet.
my exhaust is really hurting, but that just means its time for a bigger one.

Haha, this is exactly what I was going to suggest too. :)

Sea Foam rocks.
