Ooooooooh nooooooooos!

Post by legacy92ej22t »

Well, as many of you may know, I have kiddo #3 in the shoot and have also been trying to get rid of my Tahoe. My wife was sold on the FXT and I was pulling for the GT wagon but the other night my wife uttered the words that every man dreads to hear. MINIVAN!! What do I do? Should I just cut the boys off now, before they have a chance to wither up and fall off? I'm so depressed. :(

My mom has been wanting to get rid of the old family van for years, a mid 80's chevy conversion van. It still runs and dad and I have had to do a bit of work here and there but it's still a good utility vehicle and we still have a use so my dad has been holding out and holding out against a minivan. The moral of short story, it is possible to win. Just keep holding out and rember, how many minivans have AWD? You live in PA, you get snow, don't let her forget it :).

Hmm... why does she think she needs a minivan over a wagon or FXT?

Sure, after you give me the $18k to cover the B9s price tag. ;)

Lee- Just for the extra room and a possible 3rd seat. The FXT or wagon will be too tight a fit with 2 small kids in car seats, plus an 8 yr old. :(

minivans arent that bad. my parents have a toyota sienna and its a beast. very fast, smooth and... dare I say... fun. great stereo too. If you take any kind of road trips the space is awesome, and if you haul stuff they are great too.

I'm sure the kids could learn to squeeze together, keeps you better braced in the turns... j/k. There are worse things than a minivan though and the room is nice on long trips. But that unfortunately doesn't get you the FXT or GT :/.

Not to be mean, but if after two rugrats you haven't figured out what causes them, maybe you deserve to be driving a minivan.
Seriously congrats on the impending arrival.(the kid not the mini-van)

My parents carted me and my bro in a 84 Celebrity when we had ages counted in months...

You'll regret getting a Dodge Caravan; they suck. If you're going to get an AWD minivan, get an Uplander, they're slick and semi-good on gas.

Matt, have you tried to sell her on the Outback? Maybe you can try to persuade her that it has some more room or something, it does sit a bit higher, possibly a better feel for the road and it looks big and long.

If she's looking at Daimler-Chryslers, check out a Pacifica (used or new). The 3.5 liter in those things can really cook (Dad owns an M) and they're crazy comfy. 8 year old can have the row in the back to mess up all by their lonesome.

What are you talking about? I'm not following you. :?

I'd love to get an Honda or Toyota minivan (if I have to get one) but I really want Jen to have AWD. She's not very good in the snow as is so every little bit helps.

Who makes the Uplander? Not a Chevy I hope.

Sam- The Outback wouldn't solve my delima. It's still too small. :(

The B9 is probably the only Subaru that would fit my needs (that's what Jen really wants too) but I can't afford one.

Uplander is the new Chevy van, I guess 3 kids in an OB is tight, bummer, they need a Volvo-esque back seat, but then cargo would be tight.

I think the Toyotas have AWD, Matt, look into that. She commutes to Lewisburg every day, the roads around here can be shifty, yeah AWD fo sho.

If you were looking at an LGT than it's more like 8 grand or less to get into a B9, I'll ask my parents to look at W&L sometime, see if they're moving Tribecas. I've only seen one on the road, in Williamsport, maybe you can get a good deal on one?

You gotta do what you gotta do... A minivan might just be necessary for the amount of stuff you'll have to haul.

I really would also recommend an Odyssey. 1st-gen, like the one my family had -- you've ridden in it. It's basically a tall Accord wagon. Nice, straightforward, well-engineered... FWD, though. But it actually does pretty well in the snow for a 2WD vehicle. Compared to most of your other options, it's a lot less mass for Jen to keep control over.

Ya, we'll see. I really would like to have AWD but I want a Japanese made minivan if I have to get one. The few American made cars I've had seemed to have had many more problems then the Asian ones I've had.

When looking for a daily driver, that was my #1 requirement (followed by AWD and 5MT). It's gotta be from the land of the rising sun.

I'd definately say stick with the Odyssey as a last resort.

AWD minivans are difficult to find. The Ford Aerostar we had was pretty good, we beat the shit out of it and it was still OK.

My mom's Buick does well in the snow, kind of.

The B9 is gangster, and I bet you could get a smokin deal on one if you can work W&L over.

Also, maybe a Nissan Murano? Available in AWD, and with 3 rows. Kind of ugly, but you can get them pretty cheap. Not as nice as the B9, but still kinda OK.

who the hell are you to talk shit to someone for having kids. you dont know him.

the mid 90's toyota minivans were awd, I think they were called the previa. Mazda MPV's run a 4eat. :)

I can third the Honda Odessey!!
My buddy has one, they're awesome, very strong and fast 6cyl, handles very well for a mininvan, and the interior is very flexible with the third row just dropping below the floor to make it flat.
Get a nice used one!!

Uplanders are American, but they're blazin..my Grandfather drives one and he beats the hell out of it (even more than I race my poor car). You can't beat Onstar and AWD...

Besides, most of the parts come from Japan.
