Weird feeling under braking

Post by Manarius »

Whenever I get off the highway (ie going from 80 to 0 over a fairly long period of time) I get a weird sensation in my brake pedal and car. It almost feels like my tires are gripping the road to stop and that the tread in them is causing the car and my foot to vibrate (I know this isn't the case however because it only vibrates like this under braking). Should I be concerned about this? I'm assuming it's probably part of the "car goes into 3rd under braking" situation but....

Warped rotors? They will cause the pedal to pulse under braking.

I don't know if it'd necessarily call it pulsing..more like vibrating. However, these rotors probably do need turned down and/or replaced. As soon as I get some WRX wheels...

I would go ahead and replace the brakes/rotors. It's not very expensive so it's cheap insurance.

What kind of tires do you have on?

I used to have god-awful pedal shudder until I turned my rotos. Start with that. :)

I agree that it sounds like warped rotors.

BTW - The couple times I've had my rotors turned it only helped temporarily... then the shudder came back. So, next time I got cryo-treated rotors from frozenrotors.com plus some aftermarket pads and the fixed the problem. No shudder for a couple years now. They're definitely more expensive though.

There's a bunch of reviews of frozenrotors.com in the reviews forum.

I'll replace the rotors and/or calibers when I get WRX wheels..I can't do anything 'til then. I really wanted to get vented rears from an SS and put those on...
