How to beat a 94 Audi S4?
My bud just purchased a 1994 S4. It is chipped and he claims it has over 300 hp. He has been talking so much shit lately about how fast this car is so we are going to meet at the track in the spring. I have some money to dump into the tleg now so how do I get enough hp to beat him in the quarter mile and send hime home with his tail between his legs?? I know this thing is fast but also heavy. 300lb

If you want to beat a 300 chp car it's going to require some pretty extensive mods.
Do a bigger i/c then the Saab. The Saab is good for around 250 chp worth of mods max. Even the wrx tmic is probably going to be far too small. I'd go with a nice fmic setup.
For a turbo you'll want to go with a monster 16G, Super 16G or maybe even an 18G.
You'll need a full TBE. Bigger injectors like usdm sti 550cc yellows (at the least) in 92-94 NA rails. Some type of EM (engine management) and probably a built tranny.
Now your car is a lot faster so you'll probably want to upgrade your brakes and suspension so you can control the power, too.
If you're pushing over 300 chp then you'll probably need some head work and should think about a built short block too.
All this won't be cheap. Not cheap at all.
Don't think that you can just throw an exhaust, an i/c and a big turbo on your car and go beat a 300+ chp S4. It won't happen.
Perfect Power is a piggy back engine management system offered by RalliTek.

Your car, stock, is going to be much lighter than his. A stock 94 S4, with the turbo'd I-5, weighs just over 3800lbs. Your TW should be around 3300lbs if it's still running the 4EAT. Both are AWD, but he may have the advantage of a transmission that'll use less of that power, being a 5MT.
BTW, the 94 was 230 @ the crank. If you can get an idea of what his mods are, we might be able to make a better estimate than he has.

all he has done is the chip and the waste gate spring. Says the chip alone brings it up to 280 HP. I find that hard to belive?? I know nothing about Audis though. I know it is a fast car but I really want to hand him his ass and I am willing to pay for it. That car is heavy and it has 290 000 km on it. Very well maintained though, synthetics since new.

No way a chip and higher boost will add 70hp. Hes probably got about 250chp, that car runs high 14s stock though according to this: http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/spec_ ... ab=2&sub=1 , which means you have a lot of work to do since a stock TW will be lucky to hit 16 flat. I would say 3" exhaust, big IC, and a 16g should make it very close. Run high boost if you just care about winning and not longevity.

That's a damn expensive chip.
Touring wagon means you have an automatic. It depends on how much money you have. For budget, i'd go with a 16G from a jdm wrx, a wrx tmic, TBE w/ performance downpipe, safc from ebay and maybe hunt around for an apex'i ITC, they are getting kinda hard to find but it makes a huge difference. With that, you should be able to run 16psi without too much of a problem. Then get cams later on.

Seriously, lots of people on this board have a TBE, WRXIC, and 16G and stop the clock all over the 15's. Stock WRX's walk away from that setup.

It will also depend on if he is willing to drop the clutch or not. The Audi's is original.
I have been considering the 5mt swap but after reading everything It sounds pretty complicated.
Not sure where to find a turbo tranny that is in good shape either.

I don't think so. But, I would like to be wrong, so let me know if I am.dzx wrote: If i remember correctly, the ones that actually ran the 1/4 mile were having problems at the time.
The episode I am speaking of is a couple months ago. The cars I am speaking of are Phil, Matt, and Vikash. Admittedly, Phil was runnning low boost (9psi?). But I think Matt and Vikash's cars were more or less in good shape - high boost with few of the normal fuel cut problems.
I think Phil was the only one to dip into the 14's and a stock '06 rex was teh fast4r
Don't get me wrong, their cars are great and I wish mine was as cool. But I am just saying that it takes a LOT MORE than the basics to make the kind of power this guy is talking about.

For what you're going to have to spend just for bragging rights, is it really worth it? Use the $ toward an Sti or something.

Hi 91 white-T. Not replacement, just my dream machine. My Subaru is being a pain lately. Maybe it's mad from having to stay outside all the time now since I only have a 1 car garage.
