Giving in to the Rice Gods

Post by Splinter »

I was getting tired of the same black interior, so I grabbed a can of Krylon.

I'm not even half done, but I actually think it's gonna turn out ok.

Basically the plan is, do it all in the Krylon, if I like it, get new dash panels and do it with automotive interior paint.

If I dont like it, get new panels and leave them.

I personally hate painted interiors, to me nothing says tackyness like random pieces of the interior painted a color which doesnt appear anywhere else , but then again this is your car not mine. You might draw unwanted attention to your screen too(which btw came out very nice)...

Well if I do decide to go through with the whole dash (which is seeming unlikely, I dont think I like the white), it'll be all the hard vinyl in the dash, and the colour matches the outside of the car

Every single car I see with a painted dash like that ends up with the paint cracking and looking like ass. I do realize you are just experimenting and would use interior paint if you decide to keep it, but seeing a funky colored interior just makes me think of that.

Well Ive come to the independant conclusion that I don't like it.

I'm gonna spray it black tomorrow until I can get my hands on a replacement trim piece.

All you have to do is wait for it to bake off.

That paint won't stay, it'll flake off like no tomorrow. Then it's simply repaint with automotive interior paint (not that spraycan shit)

I found some paint that matches the interior plastic bits almost perfectly!

It's called "Trim Paint" or some nonsense. I got it at pep-boys, and it matches really well, to the point where I was asked if the painted custom peice was stock.

Naw I'm not gonna repaint it at all

Im just gonna get a new center trim piece. I'm getting rid of the cupholder and ashtray anyway (carPC stuff is going there), I figure I'll be able to snag one from a junkyard or from a forum member.
