Please don't flame RWD Question's?

Hi everybody. I have a 1994 Subaru Legacy Sedan 5MT with front wheel drive.

These are the question's:

1. I have the money to do this swap. The parts I have found for it are these for the swap--- R180 LSD--- 5MT AWD trans from 93-94 legacy--- Full rear cross member from a 94 all wheel drive model.


2. I know about needing axles and the hubs and I know they will fit together to an extent.

3. THIS IS IT . Do I need to buy all the control arms and stuff for this swap or are the awd and fwd rear linkage the same?


I know RWD is a lame swap to a 94 legacy sedan, but hey. how many people do you know with a RWD legacy sedan? I thought so...

It came as a factory 2WD so why not keep it that way and make something that will be on the same level as a GTS-t R32... Or something compareable i guess.

Any other questions, just shoot. I just did the FWD-AWD swap a couple weeks ago so its still fresh in the ol' noggin. The worst part is probably messing with the gas tank. But everything is pretty straight forward. Don't forget to swap the shifter bushings too.

Yeah it's not too bad.....the FWD to AWD part was probably the easiest part of my swap.

AWD swap will be easier than a RWD one since you don't have to modify the transmission to do it.

I think it would be cool, though, especially on something high powered where you'd use almost any number of monster transmissions building an adaptor for the engine and cutting a new tunnel to fit.

The whole point of the swap is to acheive a RWD subaru that feels showroom stock despite the Rear Drive. Thats it. I always was dreaming of a V8, RB nissan, 2JZ toyota, and so on but when it came down to it, I had not the money nor the drive to make a car that was stupid fast.


I like my factoy setup, it pulls hard as a stock car so I dont want to go too far beyond what it offers this way.

I have had everything from a stock toyota pickup to a full tune mazda 626. Its time for me to slow down a bit and start doing "Bolt IN" swaps, so to speak.

I have never had a true RWD sedan, only a couple 80's corolla's and some trucks. I think its time for a sedan on the level with BMW's in handling and reliability.

you could get an adapter from mudrat and swap in a ea82 5sp dual range and leave the front axles off. you'd also have the dual range which could be fun in rwd. not sure about the strength though.

I have one, and its a sport sedan at that

I have actually had 2 rwd sport sedan's , its an easy swap and makes the car fun, and you do have the possibility to go awd if you ever want.

thing to add though, make SURE you at least use the outer ends off of your fwd axles as if there is no preload on the wheelbearing it will go bad in minutes !!!
