ECU compatibility with lpg carburetion

Post by Binford »

Maybe I should ask this in my other thread about lpg, but this seems like it should be asked in the Electrical section, so here goes.....

If I were to completely bypass the current fuel system, and essentially switch to running a carburetion system(via an lpg mixer), would the factory ECU still handle the timing duties? I would keep the MAF, although possibly reconfigure to a blow through MAF, using a draw through mixer(lpg vapour running through the turbo, and MAF). I guess the main question is would the engine run without the injectors running as long as it still got adequate fuel. I'm not looking for an ideal situation, just one in order to get a baseline and then tune the lpg system to work with the rest of the factory stuff. Writing this out really makes this sound like a rediculous question, but I still want anwers and opinions. :P

If the ECU throws a hissyfit because of missing injectors, just wire in some dummy injectors that aren't physically part of the fuel system.

You shouldn't run the lpg mixture through the maf....that will throw the ECU in wacky land most likely.

Personally....I'd probably just a separate ignition controller that can use the existing cam & crank sensors, and drive existing ignition system.

Sounds like a lot less hassle...and would work better.
