I got my intercooler from nsantos in the mail today, and of course Im itching to install it.
However, my gauge hasnt arrived yet. I should be ok to install the IC and run it on factory boost until the gauge arrives, yes?

Yes, if anything it will run less boost due to the pressure drop caused by the intercooler.

The only thing you might wish you had the gauge for is to help diagnose a boost leak. But I say go for it.

ya you will probably experience a pressure drop when you install the ic. I went from stock to 5psi with my wrx ic

ALright Im going for it.
The outlet of the Intercooler doesnt seem to fit very well on the intake
This is a Saab 900, btw
Any hints?

Nevermind I got it on
New problem: The BOV hose wont reach the connector on the intake
Is it ok to drive it a dozen miles with it disconnected?

Just to clarify:
The BOV is connected to the intake side of the intercooler, but not to the connector before the turbo.
I suppose I could just connect the BOV line to the manifold, and run atmospheric until I can get a longer hose?

yes thats right splinter

Plugged it with a sharpie + tape... lol
Oh my god.
It sounds so sexy.
I dont want to reconnect the BOV

you dont have to, just make sure it vents thats all.

If this is the stock recirc valve you're talking about, I thought I read somewhere on the BBS that you shouldn't run it atmospheric because it leaks at idle - ie a manifold leak. If you have problems, then you can search on that one.

I ran it atmospheric to the auto store this morning, and it did come really close to stalling out almost every time I went from boost to idle
I also was losing massive amounts of power at half-throttle, it was stuttering and hestitating like crazy
Its running incredibly well now that I have it hooked up. I havent even turned up the boost yet and there is an extremely noticeable increase in pickup

About to do a Saab 900 IC...is all you had to do (other than "install" the IC) is get a longer tube for the BOV hose? Are you using stock everything else?

by Splinter
No, you need a custom fabbed pipe for the BOV to run off, and a few flexible fittings to hook up to the turbo outlet

Is the custom piping all you need? Does it need any mounts or anything?

No mounts, the tubing holds it in place

It can be done without custom parts if you get the right OEM parts together; search for info on how I used a 1st-generation DSM pipe and blowoff valve to install mine without custom parts.

Splinter...is that is on the right side, middle of the IC the open nipple you were talking about? Do you just leave that sitting out in the open?

No it was the part with the blue stripe on it, on the bottom left.

That's nothing but a locator tab for the SAAB's the intercoolers came in.

Just thought I'd update
I've got my boost gauge and MBC in, running 12.5PSI
Pulls like a bastard. It's actually a little tough to drive in heavy traffic, it has a tendancy to surge. I think Im actually going to run a lower boost (than stock) most of the time for fuel economies sake, and just turn it up for spirited driving.

argh...trying to get saab ic on. What is the trick to getting the hard plastic tube 'tween the turbo and the Intake Manifold off?

Lots of pulling and twisting
sillicon lube might help, but Im thinking it might fuck up your engine if you get it into the intake
Brake cleaner might do it
